I don't get the feeling that this is an Anthony thing, I don't see the band playing together in any iteration

I haven’t liked most of what the band has released since Blue Sky Noise (I think that’s their best record) so I’m not really broken up about the band ending tbh but at least they lasted for 20 years! Not too shabby!

So, I considered Circa Survive a top 3 band when I was in high school, about ten years ago. At some point, they fell through the cracks and I totally forgot about them. I think at that point, Violent Waves was their newest release? I loved it, but my tastes in music took a huge turn.

With the newest L.S. Dunes album, I've been on a bit of an Anthony Green run this year and... what the hell?! How did I forget about Circa Survive?! Blue Sky Noise is full of back to back hits for me. Juturna is incredible. All of their stuff holds up so much better than I remember. And even the newer releases that I missed, The Amulet and Two Dreams are really doing it for me.

Super fun to revisit this band that I once adored, forgot about, and now might love even more than I initially did?

I’ll never fully forgive myself for trying to nurture a relationship the same night of the olg tour. I saw them tons and tons (ironically going back to the original olg tour) but I don’t think I ever had the chance to see them again after that. Definitely something I’ll always regret. I could say with confidence that they were always the band I was the most passionate about.

I think anyone who’s been in a band probably has some idea of what might have lead to their decision but ultimately, we may never know. I think they decided that out of respect for their fans and of each other, not to air any of their dirty laundry. I think individually, their love for the music they made still exists and maybe some years from now that’ll go further than a text message.

Despise all of the sadness, I’m still so glad it happened. This band was a happy accident but the music they made poured concrete on the roots, just to make sure we’d never move.
