Drift is accessible Circa at it's best. I'm still not bored of it. We were lucky enough to get a good Live recording of it too.
If anyone's interested, I wrote a personal reflection/retrospective to celebrate Juturna turning 20 today! 20 Years of Juturna
had no idea this was turning 20 this year. I have a ton of memories to this album. I had moved out of parents house at 19, states away. I had loved Sao so was keeping tabs. But at the time didn’t have smart phones so would follow music news at the college computer lab maybe once a week. Couldn’t wait for this album to come out. I would go to indie music stores (or Best Buy) and pick up new stuff every week. I drove all around Orlando at night listening to this album on repeat. Exploring new areas. There is a turn in a well to do neighborhood that I still think about anytime I listen to this album. Plus, film school major at the time and lyrics referencing Eternal Sunshine? Yes please. I went to many shows alone during this time. I had tickets to the Sao shows that were cancelled when he quit the band so I was not going to miss any chance to see him. They opened for Dredg on that first tour. It was great. They closed with Oh Hello and he fell into the drums knocking a couple of them loose and over. He was standing outside smoking cigarettes and I asked him he would sign my ticket. It’s now framed with the OLG booklet and a gig poster from St Louis. I’ve now seen him and his other bands countless times but career long fandom wouldn’t happen without Juturna.
@Jackson Balling I read your piece Thursday and it was really well done. It’s funny I actually got into Circa around the same time as you a la the BSN era
Those 7 comments are some of the most unhinged hater-ass bullshit I've seen on the internet in a long time. Typical Lambgoat.com As for Circa I'm sure that's how it feels now but I remain hopeful those guys will make music again
I'd just like to hear from the other guys again. I hope they are doing okay yano. Brendan is still missing that front tooth i believe which is just nuts. Little eps or tracks here and there from each of them would be great like more psychic babble, flyer mile, this brendan track: .
It hasn't been that long since they stopped tbh. There must still be a lot of animosity or friction in the camp. I never thought Anthony would ever do anything with Saosin again and well, here we are... and well, it may not be the best comparison in hindsight but you get my point lol. Trying to remain optimistic, I doubt we've heard the last from Circa Survive yet.
Colin posted this on his Insta which hits pretty hard, even though Anthony’s post had made it pretty clear previously. It sucks and is crazy that Circa of all bands would end this way, but it is Anthony after all.
Idk if someone posted this already but I just literally opened Reddit and this was the first thing I saw..
For real. For it to be not amicable, to the extent that it seems to be, must mean something pretty heavy happened. Not just a last straw.
it's funny because i remember Anthony saying something on a podcast somewhere about being excited for new Circa around the time the "hiatus"/Two Dreams announcement occurred. so whatever happened, it sounds like at least some members were on board for more
Looks like post is still up. Looks like what he was replying to is now gone though. But also noticed he replied about the new merch they put up on the site for Juturna and on letting go. Doesn’t seem happy about it either.
Refreshing statement. Made me think about how entitled I've felt towards inactive acts in the past. I think it remains tough to move on because we tend to only be able to do so if there's closure. Not everything in life has that though, and it's up to the band to be transparent about their status... but are we entitled to a statement? It must be a headache to come up with one if there's bad blood. I also wonder who that closure would benefit the most, the band or the fans? I feel like bands are in lose-lose situation anyway. Continue to act like they're on a hiatus and some fans will feel like they're being strung along. Post a farewell statement without further commitments and some fans will feel cheated that it's not a proper one if it's not followed at least by a final tour, or if they don't make up for the cancelled BSN anniversary tour in Circa's case. Or do all of the prior anyway and some fans will still shout "cash grab" if said band reunites further down the line. I don't envy them at all, but I've also been that fan so... idk. Redirecting my time and energy to other, younger or not, active and thriving acts is truly the way then. edit: His words are also making me think about my issues with nostalgia as a whole. I always live with the fear of one day becoming the kind of person who's stuck in the past to the point of losing curiosity and being unable to seek new experiences, whatever it's about music or anything else (like meeting someone only to talk about the past, been there done that). There's so much wisdom in his words and this is giving me food for thought.
