I got my Touche/Circa split 7" today. Only took 12 months. Also there was a re-stock on a bunch of merch https://circasurvivestore.com/collections/recent-restocks I'm stoked because there was a shirt I wanted that disappeared from the store like a year ago.
Played Descensus earlier this week and realized that album almost ten years old. Underrated circa record
I’ve come around to more songs than just Schema over the years. Those being Always Begin, Quiet Down and Descensus. Never been a bad CS album, but this one just stuck with me the least other than those tracks.
I think it speaks to the strength of that album really that you didn't even mention Nesting Dolls. That track is great and super awesome live. Child of the Desert also became a staple of their live set and its heard to argue with it. Sovereign Circle is also a fairly good standard Circa song - it reminds me a lot of songs on The Amulet. I know we go over this a lot, but honestly Violent Waves is the one I still revisit least. Over half of the album is just endless filler to me. Think of Me When They Sound and Bird Sounds are the two I come back to. Brother Song now and again, but even that is a bit tedious.
Nesting Dolls is great. I read an interview with Anthony Green once and he mentioned it was about a period where the band members were kind of off doing their own thing and it didn’t feel like a band anymore. Sad that it’s turned out the way it is.
Been on a big Circa Survive kick this past week. Juturna has been on repeat. I need to check out their albums after "Violent Waves." I feel off around that time.
not only is juturna a truly unique masterpiece but its also remarkably their most mature album by a fair bit. how does that even happen on a first album. there is an insanely masterful demonstration of melody every single second of its runtime. when i think about conceiving something this good my mind ends up with “im not even sure how they made this”.
their strongest songwriting. a complete and inspired vision. everything had absolute purpose. no trend following or adulteration - it feels timeless because of this, not contemporary like some of their later work. their best performances.
Imagine if this was real Fooz Fighters (Tribute to Foo Fighters), Gunner Gunner, Billy McNicol, Circa Survive, KOZA, Saturn 17, Gorilla Hood Ornament
Been on a huge AG/Circa kick over the past couple months, didn't even know about Two Dreams but I'm shocked at how much I love it now. Such an interesting turn for them. Feel pretty comfortable with my ranking: Juturna (untouchable) On Letting Go (close to untouchable) Blue Sky Noise (huge nostalgia factor here for me, love how big they went with the hooks) Two Dreams (could see this overtaking Blue Sky Noise in time) Violent Waves (hugely underrated) The Amulet (nice return to form record) Descensus (only one where I can feel the filler throughout, even though the highs are high) what a fucking band though, just bangers front to back. RIP
I will always keep a candle lit for this band. If Anthony and Saosin can reunite, Circa can reunite. Or at least a man can dream. Without a doubt, my favorite band of all time. Their first three albums are a holy trinity for me. They all have such a special place in my heart. The Amulet comes close them. I definitely agree that it was a nice return to form, though I still really enjoy Descensus. Violent Waves is easily my least favorite, but even that one I enjoy still. Took me a while to really get into Two Dreams. I still find myself returning to the handful of songs that really clicked with me more than listening to the album or EPs as wholes, but I appreciate the direction they went in and listening to all 12 of those songs from start to finish is a fucking vibe. Imposter Syndrome, Even Better, Curitiba, and Late Nap are among my favorite songs from this band at this point. Late Nap, in particular, has a very special place in my heart. Band just didn’t miss for me.
