Nice little stream of consciousness post @sophos34, I enjoyed reading that, I know how much this band means to you. Hope you're doing well these days, and I hope Anthony and Stephen come out the other end in a much better place too.
that one bit in "Buzzhenge" fuckin broke me just now. those two are the easy favourites so far, such a good sound for them
This EP is insane. Really hope Anthony and Stephen both end up alright, I want them to keep thriving for years to come.
Playing both eps back to back as an album has really made this whole project click incredibly hard for me. Definitely recommend trying that if you arnt into them yet.
Late nap is another gem. Definitely improving on a headphone listen. I dont like the first 2 tracks on this one yet, those arent clicking at the moment. From a dream about love, sleep well is my favorite by a long shot. Drift has a good crescendo too which i dig. Our last shot is my least favorite.
the busy drums with the flanger underneath the piano on Curitiba is an ace moment. when Steve gets busy in that jazzy style of his hes at his most tasteful. think stop the car.
Stop the car is ny favorite circa song because of the drums and it kills me that that intro is never played live. Its always slightly different, often times skipping the drums entirely. Ill listen to curitiba again.
Been conceptualizing my first tattoo for a while now. I know I want to do the safe camp symbol with violets going around it. I want it to represent how important my support system has been to me while I'm dealing with chronic illness (Crohn's), but trying to find the right lyric to go with it. Leaning towards "move one inch at a time, and you'll be just fine", but trying to come up with a few more ideas
ADAD is such a huge step up from ADAL it's wild. It's like everything they were going for on the first one they fucking nailed on this one.
Listened thru about 10 times now. Still think there are some weird Melodies that remind me of the Patreon demos. Not bad, just sound a little bit unfinished/meandering. but overall very into these two EPS. Would love to see these live over BSN show. need to listen with my senheissers and see if I can pick up more of what’s going on under the primary synth/bass/drum lines.
I think I like these two EPs more than anything they’ve done since OLG. And they are my favorite band in the world by a mile.
ADAD grabbed me a lot more on first listen, so I spun them back-to-back today... didn't really change my view of ADAL as being good, but less consistent and engaging. The mood and subject matter are obviously bleak throughout, but ADAL might be a little too plodding and dreary for its own good, where ADAD is ironically more alive and AG's vocal melodies are off the chart.
This is so odd to read, because I fall on the complete opposite of this take. ADAL feels more dynamic, melodic, and hook-driven than ADAD to me, which feels very slow in comparison. I will say that ADAD improved a lot on a second listen, so my opinion will keep evolving. I will agree that back-to-back was a good listen, I like them as two halves of a whole a bit more. Buzzhenge feels like a great closer to the whole thing.
Been playing this bands discography all day, we are so lucky to have gotten so much incredible material from them.
This really can't be overstated. I hope they (in particular Anthony and Stephen) aren't being in any way troubled by a sense of obligation to the fans while they're going through what they're going through. We've got almost two consistent decades of music from them - if there were ever a band who'd be unequivocally entitled to plainly go "Yeah indefinite hiatus, get fucked leeches" it's Circa.
Curitiba and Buzzhenge are upper echelon circa songs in my eyes already. Just gorgeous stuff going on in both and Anthony’s lyrics are gut punching to me. I hold them in the same esteem as like the amulet, flesh and bone, Lazarus, your friends are gone, through the desert alone, etc. all those classic life changing tracks from the past… it’s beautiful that they can still hit me like that with their new music when so much has changed for me even in the 4.5 years since the amulet
