What kind of music are you into? What sort of sub genre rock do you like? What kind of feel? Someone should probably ask you that.
oh thanks for reminding about that Thrice album. I really liked it and forget about it often. Wish the production was a little different on it.
Ok just kidding but I don't really know how to answer that question. haha I'm not too picky. @KidLightning definitely knows at least a few things I like so I trust him.
Descensus This is definitely the band's "heavy" record. There are some crushing songs on this record. Schema and the title track are probably the most overtly heavy songs here, but there are moments in nearly every song that would qualify. I've always appreciated Circa's heavier, more bombastic moments, and for that reason this record hits a sweet spot for me. The drums and bass are pounding, the guitars bite like rattlesnakes, and Anthony's blend between his conventional style and harsh growl is phenomenal. I love that they indulged that side of their sound. The record is very cathartic in that regard as well as lyrically. Knowing the context around a lot of the songs certainly makes them hit even harder. I think my top 5 from the album would probably be (not in order) Schema, Child of the Desert, Nesting Dolls, Only The Sun, and Always Begin. Looking at that list, I could argue that the album is front-loaded. That being said, I think it is incredibly consistent throughout, and even my least favorite song (Sovereign Circles) is still a hell of a song. In fact, I think this is one of their most consistent albums, period. None of these songs would make my top 5 or maybe even top 5 Circa Survive songs, but it is incredibly cohesive and well-crafted album. It is driving, aggressive, and relentless, and a wonderful exploration of the heavier aspects of their sound.
it is? I feel like the drums are really muffled, and it has a tinny sound throughout the whole record. Am I alone in that? EDIT: okay yeah, i put it on and even in the chorus of Hurricane it sounds like its coming out of speakers that are starting to bust. I love this album, and its probably my favorite Thrice album all the way through, but the production is not a strength.
I definitely think others agree it's a very well produced album. I remember everyone saying that around the time of release if I recall.
do you hear what I'm hearing though? I can't be the only one that things it gets way too muddy when it gets loud. The quiet parts sound outstanding, but those are few and far between on that album.
ngl since this album came out i havent been able to go a day without listening to at least 2 albums from this band. just today ive listened to everything but juturna and violent waves, in which im listening to VW rn cuz juturna was the last album i listened to last night
Gotta agree that the production is not my fav here. Not sure if "muddy" is exactly what I would say, but it defintely feels... like all the sounds are muted in a sense, or underwater, or spacey... not really sure how to type sounds into words tbh
Maybe I'm just being Mr. Hottakes, but am I alone in thinking At Night It Gets Worse is the least good song in this thing?
