I posted this in the TWIABP thread but the review for this is finished just needs some final edits and should be live tomorrow - I had an intensive personal last few days so this has taken a temporary backseat
Their early demos are soooo bad, I can imagine the very first would be unlistenable haha. I still like Chiodos, but I definitely need to be in a specific mood to listen to them. I love those first two records, and they were one of my very favorite bands to see live. I couldn't care less about how bad the lyrics are, they're such a fun band.
It was the first song by this band I heard that actually made me re-evaluate my (ridiculously off-base) impression of them. Still one of my favorites.
Pretty sure this is unequivocally my AOTY now. I fucking adore this album. It'll never unseat Juturna or OLG, and I doubt anything ever will, but man this album is beautiful.
I hadn't thought much about where this places for overall in the year for me, probably a safe top twenty maybe a sneaky top ten. Its very solid, and I still think their best in years, but didn't blow me away like some other stuff this year.
Recently compiled a list of the stuff I've listened to this year so I could get a head start on organizing some thoughts for my end of year write up. Dunno where anything is "officially" going to place but this is comfortably in my top 20
It's sort of worth mentioning though that I get new albums at an embarrassingly slow pace. Most of the crap I've downloaded this year has been just me catching up on the stuff I hadn't gotten around to from last year. So there's not a ton of competition. But still, Yes it is, Elisha.
I'm really not getting into this album, not sure what it is. Not really finding much to grab onto or remember, it feels like one long song to me :/
I've been preoccupied with stuff, so I'm going to finish my discography run with Descensus and The Amulet when I get home from work tomorrow. I know you were all waiting with bated breath lol.
I've finally been able to give this some time, and I'm really into it. I definitely like it more than Descensus. Too early for me to say much more than that. I've gone back to it a few times already, which is a good sign. I was undecided on Thrice/Circa (never got into Thrice) tour, but I think this has nudged me over the edge. Also I just have to say Bone Palace Ballet is probably one of the 5 most formative albums of my life and the first album I really truly loved. I can see why others have been turned off to it over time, but I still play it at least a handful of times a year. And I mean I just saw Craig Owens last December when he was doing his BadxChannels tour (He has no shortage of horrible band names, that's for sure.) So I'm pretty much along for the ride. Can't really see that ever changing to be honest.
Listening to this right now and really feeling it. This bass line in "Premonition . . ." is killer. So much groove.
i think, had i not realized that blue sky noise is my fave recently, this would be my favorite circa record
Isn't that technically better than to say I listened to Thrice and didn't like them? Like I've truly just never even given them a proper chance (I'm sure I've heard songs but I haven't paid close attention). Which album should I start with?
listen to playlists for getting into Thrice at this point probably someone could prob make a really great and concise one for you *nb4 this thread breaks
I guess . . . I think their newest, while not my favorite (that goes to Vheissu), is a good place to start. It incorporates a lot of different elements of their sound. Outside of that, similar to what @Your Milkshake, suggested, I'd actually go with their live album Anthology since it spans their entire discography pre-hiatus. Then just note the songs you enjoy and go back and check out those albums.
