I'll post about it later tonight or tomorrow when I eventually listen to Juturna, but We're All Thieves is just so powerful. It's by far my favorite on the album.
Wish Resign and Glorious Nosebleed are forever the zenith of this bands work. Nothing else like it anywhere. Alien even. + HoL
Holding someone's hair back Great golden baby Stop the fucking car Act appalled In fear and faith Nosebleed House of leaves Wish resign Montauk Always getting what you want Thieves Hello Really hard, great album, this would probably change each listen
Onto on letting go, these first two always seem like a pair to me, they're more comfortable in their sound but still very young as a group and trying things. The first two tracks match about the same intensity levels as on Juturna, I never liked the hook of in the morning but the bridge where it slows down is so good. These songs are great.
I was always confused why The Greatest Lie was the 3rd most popular song according to Spotify behind Get Out and The Difference Between... I mean, it's a good song, but that's a little perplexing to me.
I will never forget the first time I heard Hair Back. Just listening to it right now is enough to reduce my skin to a valley of shivers
The Difference Between Your Friends Are Gone In the Morning and Amazing Travel Hymn Living Together Kicking Your Crosses Down Mandala Semi Constructive Criticism The Greatest Lie On Letting Go Carry Us Away Close Your Eyes to See
The difference between is such a perfect circa song, and the greatest lie is great but I never thought that popular Mandala has such a tight groove. I get why this is people's favorite album, it's so consistent, they really come into the sound they were finding on Juturna.
On letting go is harder to rank, these songs are all so fucking good. I think Juturna has clearer highs person to person, but this record is so tight all the way through. Semi contructive criticism rips
Your friends are gone -maybe my all time favorite Difference between Semi constructive criticism Kicking crosses Greatest lie Living together Mandala On letting go In the morning Close your eyes Carry us away Travel hymn The differences between these ranks are all pretty small, very consistent record. I still like Juturna more overall but it's close.
"Your Friends..." has to be the most unique song they've recorded, and really one of the most unique sounding songs I've heard in post-2000 rock, in general. It's tough to make a song that doesn't sound like anything else these days, but they really pulled it off there. OLG is just incredible, backed up by what has to be close to my favorite opener-closer pair of all time.
Those two songs are no longer my favorites but they were super important for me back when the record came out. Back then, I was pretty narrowly into stuff like Tool and Radiohead, and thumbed my nose at music with even the slightest emo or punk tinges. I decided to give Juturna a chance and that sequence grabbed my interest cause of the spaciness and prog vibes. In hindsight, that was a real lightbulb moment in broadening my horizons to include a ton of stuff I love now.
Yeah, it's so crisp and clear. Anthony is belting everything and it sounds amazing Song wise I feel like these blur together the least for me, it's very straight forward, which I can see why it'd be polarizing
Living together The difference between In the morning and amazing Travel hymn The greatest lie Carry us away Mandala On letting go Kicking your crosses down Close your eyes to see Semi constructive criticism Your friends are gone
I was just wondering bc you said the last page back J was your fave and I've seen your song ranking excel file lol I thought you were flip flopping for a sec
We’re all thieves I’m fear and faith The glorious nosebleed Act appalled Oh hello Always getting what you want Stop the car Holding someone’s hair back The great golden baby Wish resign Montauk
It's so weird how different our rankings are, just goes to show that when a band is this good they gather some shitty fans with terrible opinions It sounds objectively better, I still like the songs on Juturna and OLG more.
I complain about the muddiness of Jut and especially OLG, but I also don't know that BSN's production verbatim would jibe with the content on those first two records.
I think Fever Dreams is the most similar in style to those first albums, and it's probably the best song on BSN. That's probably a good estimation of what those records would sound like with the BSN production style
