@Your Milkshake maybe this can help change your opinion of the song, this is a really good performance
So despite cancelling my MerchNow order and getting a refund, I just got this album in the mail. I BEAT THE SYSTEM
Nope. Got myself an external CD drive that ran me like 90 bucks. (I did buy digital from Bandcamp though ftr)
This album really does sound HUGE, but I feel like it takes some of the energy of the previous albums away. I do still like this album, but it is definitely the least inspired Circa has ever sounded.
I think you can feel the uncertainty of the band. just being dropped from a major label, making the album on their own budget... this stuff probably was weighing on them.
I like Phantasmagoria more than i remembered... the bridge where it's almost acapella through the end is pretty cool.
I'm not sure where I would put The Amulet yet but that's where my ranking sits. Descensus really made it's way to the top for me, glad I'm not alone.
which user was it that would go on and on about the vocal break in Phantasmagoria and how it sounded like The Rugrats? lmaooo
it is a shock to the system to go straight from VW to Schema and Descensus. I honestly got pretty bored with VW this time around, but it was also my 4th Circa album to listen to today.
Schema has the exact same harmonic hit at the beginning that the beginning of The Lottery has. Maybe it wasn't so shocking at that point. Jk
When BSN came out it quickly became my favorite but over time it has settled down a bit. Juturna is my clear favorite. I want to say OLG is my favorite because I think it sounds the best and has my favorite artwork but some days BSN beats it for 2nd. Living Together is my 2nd favorite CS song after we’re all thieves. Amulet takes 4th. Then probably VW and Descensus.
well probably going from that song to Schema might be alright, but The Lottery is the high point in VW as far as energy goes, and it doesnt reach that point again for the rest of the album if you ask me.
Just in case rankings aren't obnoxious enough I'm legit gonna score their discography. OLG 95/100 Juturna 93/100 Amulet 88/100 BSN 88/100 VW 80/100 Descensus 77/100 Also yes, I've always seen Schema as just a less interesting rendition of The Lottery. I know it's not quite that simple, but idk how anyone couldn't immediately think that when first hearing it.
I actually was just completely joking but the inclusion of that tone in each always had me scratch my head.
I expected lower scores from you for albums you've been vocal about being cold on. If I scored BSN, VW, and D in here someone would probably shit bricks. lol
Yeah idk what my scoring is even relative to, other than just the differences between these records themselves. There's never been a Circa release I found bad or hard to enjoy. Descensus only has 2-3 tracks I feel like revisiting most of the time, so that's about as "bad" as it gets. All the rest I can listen straight through and genuinely enjoy. I've prob gotten too fired up about people in here preferring the more radio-friendly 4-chord songs vs. the intricate early stuff, considering I still like most of that too haha
