Of course we know these bands have a lot of fans and are known. It just sucks they miss out on exposure from the popular music publications. All I meant
I've read a lot of interviews with Anthony where he emphasizes that the band doesn't give a shit about any type of mainstream success and are perfectly happy in their nice audience (which is very dedicated).
circa fans are one of the more dedicated groups i've encountered. i would wager they are having no troubles what so ever financially, if that was the point of discussing mainstream success.
Circa and Coheed seem to occupy the space of always being able to tour and rabid fans will eat up anything they do. Coheed might be on a slightly higher plane, but its the same level of consistency.
Think I might hear some APC influence on this record the more I listen, especially the two "Hex" songs and "At Night." Pretty cool, as they're another band I adore but have never really connected the two at all.
I'm aware of all of this btw. just has to suck on some level when a place that can make taste like Pitchfork positively covers a band like From Indian Lakes or Foxing (great great bands) etc, who would not sound the way they do without the influence of Circa Survive, and not also cover Circa Survive. or when they cover bands that aren't very good at all that also occupy the same wheelhouse or pseudo-scene as Circa, and not Circa. I'm aware they're doing well. More is always better though. And it seems logical that they would get that specific exposure given the aforementioned but for whatever reason it's not there (wonder if it's because maybe the last couple of album cycles didn't make alot waves). it's not about 'being mainstream' at all or whatever you said
I don't think Ian Cohen likes them much, and I think he's the only reason some of the bands from this "scene" ever get covered there.
hes never listened to them, he tweeted this year "a record called the amulet probably isn't the best place to start with circa survive is it?"
I'm sure he's aware of them and heard them to some extent, but probably hasn't sat down and REALLY listened to one of their albums front to back.
Just me, but I'm all the happier to be a Circa fan if the pretentious indie scene that worships super boring music doesn't pump them up.
If they had a breakout moment like Portugal did this year...I'd be a little bummed. Seeing them at a 5000+ capacity venue and having everyone only know one song would be a tough pill for me to swallow.
I mean they were already 'worshipped' alongside the AP readers band scene in the past. thats worse. it's the most pigeonholing and least accurate place for them to be imo from square one.
Almost every circa fan I know is kinda just a BSN fan and thinks the other stuff is cool but too out there and a little boring. Anyone else like that?
I'd put it at fourth, I need to revisit the last two some more tho. They're all pretty solid records.
....but I do like it I'm a Anthony diehard, so this album could probably be farts and I'd still find something to enjoy
Yeah, I really don't know where I sit with this album. It's almost making me want to go back and re-listen to every one of their albums.....reevaluate everything haha.
