Is anyone going to the release show in Doylestown? I really want to, but driving down there from Allentown just to preorder the record is kinda inconvenient for me.
Tunnel vision is my jam Verses are in 5 the prechorus alternates between 5 and 6 and the chorus is in 6 yet it all sounds super accessible and natural. Also there are key changes all over this thing that don't sound out of place at all, no idea how they do it. They are such a talented band, it's one to write tons of odd time signatures and key changes but it's another thing to do that while the music sounds natural and accessible. Nothing sounds out of place
Yeah this band has always been very good at keeping a good flow when writing odd time signatures. That being said, Tunnel Vision rules and is one of the best on the album. That chorus and outro are fantastic.
Yeah I was admiring the key in Tunnel Vision my self The guitars in the chorus feel major most of the time but the vocals on top feel minor most of the time.
I just can't believe we've been blessed with two memes this year and so close to each other too: counterparts and blakebeats
Someone was in the 1975 thread a few months ago saying that Counterparts could run circles around the 1975 it was hilarious
I'm so blessed to have been active in both threads when they happened. Both brought so many chuckles to me on lunch breaks at work. Nothing but love from me
Don't care about this band at all, but I heard there was a Blakebeaks convo taking place. So here I am.
It's a standout for me. I think it's pretty great all around. Anthony showing off a more gentle side of his voice with his falsetto sitting alongside atmospheric guitarwork and a fantastic rhythm section, particularly Steve's work on drums.
"Stay" has become the biggest grower for me. i really love it, anthony showing off his lower range sounds really beautiful here, the key change for the bridge and the bass line there is really interesting, and then of course the catchy guitar riffs all throughout. all in all, any complaints i had about the album at first, are slowly going away as it all sinks in, and the album becomes greater with each listen still. usually i don't like it when a band goes "softer" than their previous album, but this really ended up being exactly what they needed to do at this point after descensus, and after anthony doing the saosin album. and i respect all of anthony's choices for vocal delivery on this album, it certainly is his best performance in quite a while.
Pretty sure Lustration is the lowlight for me. The singles in general turned out to be lower-tier among the tracklist, which I'm grateful for. The title track felt like a real letdown as a single, but I'm warming to it more in context. I will say that the little riff at the end of the chorus actively grates on my nerves and brings the whole song down. It's little details and snippets like that where they get lazy/boring in an otherwise cool song that remind me Juturna/OLG are still king.
