Especially when you include "Suspending Disbelief" in its rightful place and "House of Leaves", Juturna is far and away my favorite. Descensus would have to be second followed by On Letting Go.
I've seen Thrice like.... 5 times? And I really dislike their live show, and don't enjoy sitting through it
Either A) with friends or B) at a festival waiting for the next band or C) was my first or second time seeing them, so I still wanted to
I've seen Thrice two times. Once right after Alchemy and once on their farewell tour. They are one of my absolute favorite bands. However, because they've done so much different stuff, depending on their setlist, I could be straight up jamming or completely bored.
some obsessed fan tried to affectionately tackle Dustin on stage at their farewell tour in Dallas and got escorted out I remember lol
I've seen probably 300+ shows and I'm still excited to see Thrice play. Dustin sounds so good live. And some of the songs where they unleash Teppei destroy the album version. If you don't like Thrice, that is fine, but they aren't a bad LIVE band. If they couldn't pull of their music live, they wouldn't still be around.
For me, I know their catalog pretty darn well, but every single time live I feel like I know NONE of their songs, I just can't recognize them live and they all sound like the same brooding and plodding song to me, I just really don't feel any sonic differences from them live. Maybe it's just a ME thing. I've seen Dustin solo many times and thought he was fucking amazing every single time
Yeah I don't want to be a dick but I think it's a you thing. Have you ever listened to their LIVE album?
Sorry y'all, don't like Thrice. I've tried several times to get into them and, outside of a few songs, I find them to be tremendously boring. Edit: Also, in one of my attempts to get into them I bought their live CD/DVD. Soooooooo *shrug*
they've sounded way better every time ive seen them (2008, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016) than they did on the house of blues dvd
yeah tbh HoB DVD oddly isn't as good a performance technically as most any other video I find of them live. I've thought that forever. setlist on the DVD is pretty great though.
I'm completely unfamiliar with them but when I saw them with @sophos34 they were pretty good. Definitely not painful to sit through or anything
I've tried each of their albums (minus IC) at least once each time I've tried to get into them. In all honesty, I'm not huge on Dustin's voice (although he is by all means a technically skilled/good vocalist), I don't really connect with their lyrics at all, and I rarely find myself feeling drawn to what they're doing instrumentally either (though, again, they're all skilled at their instruments). They're a band that I always feel like I should love, but just don't.
Interesting. You won't see me disparaging someone for not liking something. Not that anyone's doing that here. Just was curious personally if you'd given Alchemy a shot, particularly discs 3 and 4.
Yeah, makes sense. I expected to get the reaction I got, I can't lie and say I didn't intentionally exaggerate a bit lol.
Love me some Thrice, but, interestingly enough, I've met quite a few people who can't get into them. It took me a few months, but I love just about everything they've done since Vheissu. I'm just so excited that two of the most formative bands for me in my life are playing the same bill together. It's gonna be a grand time for me. Balance And Composure is just icing on the cake, which is actually three-layered cake so that's how you know it's gonna be lit
To be fair, I felt very similarly about Circa until around the time Descensus came out, so it's not an impossibility that one day Thrice will click for me... however, the more my music tastes change, the more I seem to gravitate away from the particular type of music that Thrice tends to play so idk.
