I wish they would address this. The regular art is awesome. I'm curious if the colored vinyl version has an insert with the regular album art or not.
I had the best time seeing them last night. I'm obviously biased, but I really think they're the best live band I've ever seen. Now I just have to wait a few weeks to see them destroy a 400 cap room.
They're my favorite band and I'll also go as far as to say they put on one of the best live sets I've ever seen. They absolutely bring the energy, especially Anthony, and they switch up their setlist and good bit to keep their sets interesting. Being from the Philly area, it feels a little bit extra special seeing them play hometown shows. Anthony loves it and you can tell.
there's a video on the Circaboard Tumblr of Anthony playing an acoustic version of the song The Amulet from the new album. sounds really good.
This is the best I can do from my phone apparently CIRCA BOARD - The Amulet (Circa Survive Cover) (Acoustic) |...
seems like we are going to get a lot of his higher register on this album. Been like 10 years since he consistently did it. Wonder if being clean has helped his vocals
he's definitely sang high the whole time he has sounded really pretty different with everything after BSN though in my opinion in some way. Tonally and stylistically and production wise I would guess. I prefer his vocal work on first 3 albums vs the last 2. He just belted the fuck out of it and had amazing melodies. Judging from a couple studio clips, Lustration, and the acoustics Amulet; it sounds like he'll be doing a fair share of falsetto on the new album which is not something he has spent much of his past career doing at all. I'm intrigued. The Ocean and the Sun is a great album of his where he spends a lot of the time doing most everything with his vocals differently than he had done previously or since.
yeah even his more aggressive moments on the last two records have been in his higher register, but thats fine because his higher register sounds great. one critique i see of Circa is that Anthony relies too much on holding out notes and laying on a melody too long but that seems weird to me because that just adds to the atmosphere Circa makes plus the motherfucker can SING.
i wont lie though i used to be one of those people that thought Circa Survive were boring but for whatever reason a few years ago it just clicked. its like i had this preconceived notion of what theyd be like after LOVING "Act Appalled" and they just never lived up to that for me (at first) and then right before Descensus was announced it just hit me. like, ok this band isnt making this aggressive emo tinged post hardcore/rock theyre very clearly influence by prog and psychedelia in addition to post hardcore so once i framed them that way it just made sense. its weird how that can happen, like how new context or a new perspective can turn a band into one of your favorites.
Yeah I guess I was more referring to the falsetto, compared to his usual high moments. He seems to naturally sing higher so I guess it is all relative. Prob to early to say but looks like he won't be screaming/growling...or whatever you want to call it...as much on this which is really exciting. The new Saosin record gave me the aggressiveness that I wanted, kind of want this to be a pretty and more subdued record
yeah i knew watcha meant mostly haha. that Saosin record and that band in general feel like the perfect gateway for Anthony to oscillate between his two passions: aggressive post hardcore/rock and atmospheric prog-rock
Agree totally. Will be interesting to see if anything is as "hard" as schema, child of the desert, or Get Out on this. My assumption is no but that is with no insider info. ha
It doesn't really matter to me if this album leans one way or the other on the heavy/soft spectrum. Whatever they do (sans some 5-6 tracks on Violent Waves) is great so I trust them to make something I enjoy no matter what
It’s pretty chill but Anthony sounds amazing on this - some tracks rip but it’s got this winter vibe attached to it that I really dig.
Cool! Get ready for this thread to jump down your throat with questions. I know I'll have a bunch. If you're able to discuss and hype monger lol
