How stoked is @sophos34 that they remastered this thing?

 

Is the remaster vinyl only or is a remastered version hitting streaming? I already own the first pressing so there was no reason to get this since I don’t listen to my records but if a remaster is coming to streaming I’m on board.

 

Always seems like a waste to spend the time/money remaster for a vinyl only release, can't imagine they won't have it on streaming

 

It’s not a waste at all, vinyl should have their own master in the first place

 

I guarantee the original press is just the digital masters pressed to vinyl

 

If there are only these limited pressings, it'd feel like a missed opportunity. And yeah vinyl should ideally have its own master but sadly that isn't the case every time. Given it took so long to get this repress, id be shocked if they didn't go all out and provide digital remasters

BSN was mastered terribly so I sure hope the new one is released digitally, even if it's optimized for vinyl. Assuming they don't just brickwall and clip it even more, that is.

Funny thing is that almost all vinyl uses a different master, you could call almost any vinyl record a remaster. There’s a certain dynamic range required for vinyl that most digital recordings these days don’t quite hit, sophos could explain better since I’m out of my realm of professionalism here.

 

I'm not an expert, but I think we may be talking about two different things? From what I understand, it's shamefully common for modern records to have the same master pressed to vinyl as distributed digitally. It's just that when you press vinyl, the waveform has to be altered for reasons I'm not entirely clear on, and then the cartridge/stylus basically inverts this alteration to make it sound right during playback.

 

Waste isn't the right word, more missed opportunity.

That's really cool they're taking Queen of Jeans out. One of their members used to post on the old Circa message board. Also, the Underground is a small venue in Charlotte for them!

 

Bummed it doesn't come near me, but I hope this means new LD material on the horizon.
