She's improved her stage presence BIG time. I had thought the same thing..I'd seen videos where they all just stand still the entire time. But I saw them at SXSW and they absolutely killed it. Look up recent videos and the difference is pretty incredible. She's definitely overcome the stage fright
i remember when i said chvrches would be the next purity ring, in early 2013. well, i guess i underestimated it a little bit, lol
They've improved a lot more live. When is saw them in 2014 is was awkward. Then last summer they were better and by fall it was a blast. Lauren interacted with the crowd more and more each time. The last time I saw them was club setting over 2 festival dates so that may have played into it. She just seems better at hyping the crowd now.
They DEFINITELY got the crowd into it in Austin. And good lord, the way they start Mother We Share, with just her singing? So awesome, just wish I got more than a 30-45 minute set
I really didn't like the song Mother We Share so I never got into their debut album but I love love love Every Open Eye. It's probably time I re-visit their first album.
Every Open Eye is just so much brighter. Just got into it recently but I don't revisit the debut as much. I do listen to the Mother We Share/Jimmy Eat World mashup a TON though
Glad to hear the band is a more exciting live act now. If it wasn't for the videos I've seen, I probably would have seen them live already.
Down Side of Me is the best track on their new album. Empty Threat is close. But nothing tops The Mother We Share. That one is probably a top 50 song of all time for me.
Down Side Of Me is one of my favorites on the album alongside Clearest Blue, Leave A Trace, and Make Them Gold.
They are so far removed from what I usually listen to but I just can't get enough. Got into them in early 2014 after hearing Mother We Share and I'm hooked. Saw them live at Osheaga in 2014 and can't wait until they get back to Montreal.
Good band. I rarely listen to their albums front to back, but they've written some of my favorite songs of the last few years. The Mother We Share, Leave a Trace, and Empty Threat are all fantastic.
I generally love both albums, but does anyone else feel like Every Open Eye sounds a lot more compressed? Not just streaming of course, but also when played via FLAC or the vinyl release. The songs are there, no doubt, but it took me quite a few listens to get into it compared to Bones because something sounded off to me.
Love this band! Can't wait to catch them at Coachella next weekend and then the Monday after at the Fox in Oakland.
I mean, it's only two albums, so you could brush up on those pretty easy. Otherwise, you can listen to the singles and get a good idea of how the setlist will go.
i think the first record has bigger highs (gun, we sink, the mother we share, recover), but the second record is more consistent, plus it has "clearest blue"
