I don't care about the amount of pop as long as it's good, I'd be plenty happy if they make the pop album of the year
Yeah lol they've been an electronic pop band from the jump, I truly do not get the criticism levelled at Love is Dead that it was 'too poppy' - not sure what you expected?
Didn’t expect my comment to be so controversial. I love most their stuff but their last record felt a bit generic to me. I prefer their darker material from their first album, and the weird dancey stuff of the second. The last album just really felt flat to me beyond a few songs. The promo is exciting for this one but I’ve yet to hear anything so I’m cautious for what’s to come.
Yeah, I think there’s a pretty clear shift towards mainstream pop on the third album that wasn’t present on the first two albums. Even Lauren has acknowledged this, lol.
I think there are two different conversations here that people aren't seeing eye to eye. "pop" as a term shouldn't be a negative, it's a huge genre with an overwhelming amount of amazing music, this band is part of that. "mainstream pop" is a separate sub-genre of that, which I think most of us can agree can get really terrible. Saying this band got "too poppy" is a weird statement for a pop band, but saying that they veered too far toward the mainstream is much more reasonable. in summation, pop isn't bad; the band's third album was their worst; we all (obviously) hope the next album is amazing
I know someone joked about them possibly sounding like Purity Ring for this record but I'd honestly be down for it lol
