I disagree extremely. I don't think anyone should be forced to do something that they aren't comfortable with, especially when it comes to creating your art.

 

Bear with me if this doesn't make sense, but the way I have been thinking about this album is that while the production is top notch, the band sounds great, and Lauren's voice is obviously great.... the songs themselves feel like they are from an album that would have made more sense before the debut.

Most of these songs sound like the band playing it safe, the album definitely doesn't take many chances and the song structure themselves just feels more straightforward. Also, more minor but related, it's kinda weird having the choruses of Graves and Heaven/Hell both use "dancing on the/our ashes/graves" and have the songs back to back.

Anyway, I still will listen to this a ton, but for me it feels like a super safe record all things considered

Why? And why would they have to even give a reason? Maybe they thought Matt's voice fit the song more than Martin's would have. Who cares. I don't even care for the song but I do feel the need to defend their decision here.

Was hoping it’d be “For Free?” though

 

Loved their first two, but this album is so average. Probably my biggest disappointment this year. Hoped it would grow on me but... It really hasn't.

 

I’ve returned to it in full only once since the release date tbh. I’m seeing them live in October so maybe that will give the other songs more life.

 

haven't listened in full for a month or so the back half (from "Graves" on) is really good

 

Love every song except for Graves and Heaven/Hell. Never Say Die gives me sweaty chills every damn time.

 

oh man, I think Graves is the best song on the album.

I am seeing them on Monday night, I'm really stoked, it can't come soon enough.

 

The truck carrying their equiptment broke down on their way to the show so they played late and Lauren couldn't engage in a much banter as she usually does, but they were still great.
