I was at the Brooklyn show tonight and can confirm that Forever is so so so so great.

 

The online abuse that Lauren gets is absolutely infuriating. The fact that they have to hire extra security at shows and a keep list of potentially dangerous people is so sad. Some people fucking suck. Love is dead.

 

Fuck. Lauren's really been put through some absolute bullshit online. I want this album to blow up, not only because I'm a huge fan of the band but it'd be the biggest possible fuck-you to the worst kinds of people. Is it Friday yet?

I feel as though the critical narrative for this album was laid out the second Get Out dropped and people saw the artwork. The new songs sounded great live and the singles from this truly go off in a live setting. I’m not expecting this to top either of their last albums, but I’m still very excited for it.

Also agree. I love this band in general, and the songs released so far already show me that I'm going to love this album regardless of what degree I like it compared to past albums

Also, Toronto folks. The NXNE show has been announced as June 16, free at Yonge-Dundas square. Wild that I’ll see them twice within 4 weeks. It’ll be great to be familiar with the new material this time around.

As someone who's been a huge fan since before Bones came out, seen them live five or six times... the songs released so far have just done nothing for me, and I find at least two of them straight up bad. I'd actually prefer it if there was some sort of critical vendetta against this record, like these were misunderstood gems, but the songwriting has taken a genuine hit as far as I'm concerned. Those first two records hardly have a bad track between them, where as I've legitimately enjoyed maybe one of the four released so far here.

Still excited to pull whichever songs I like from the record, but as a whole piece I can't imagine the album having much staying power for me.
