Maybe the headline should be “admits to” vs “responds to”

What a bizarre statement. He goes from an admittance of guilt and taking accountability for his actions to making excuses for his behavior almost every other sentence.

"All of the allegations are true, and there is proof.... but also the proof was intentionally manipulated to make me look bad"

    Aaaachem!

I mean... at the same time I’m like man, so disappointed in an artist I admired, but also the lyrics have been there all along... he’s never been super tolerant of like, women having their own autonomy and choosing not to worship him...

When I first read it, it’s like oh wow he’s taking complete responsibility... and then oh no...

I understand there are two sides to every story, but when the story has literally been storied on IG...

Where did you find the other info? I'm not finding much of anything besides that Instagram "yourbandsucks"

Edit: NVM. Didn't see the story, just the posts. Holy cow.

This is...hard to process in a lot of ways...

I expected myself to be more upset or surprised considering his band meant SO much to me when I was younger, but part of me isn't surprised or anything because I saw videos of him drunk years ago and just yelling and being out of control. So so many of his actions and lyrics have shown great insight into what kind of person he is and this just confirms a lot of it.

I would not be surprised if The Get Up Kids' "The Advocate" was written about Chris Conley, considering the friendship between him and Matt Pryor.

“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.”

This saying still holds true to this day. I’m not surprised by anyone in this industry anymore. I was a huge Brand New fan and all the shit that came out about JL was awful and I never could have imagined it. But the more you read and look into you see how fucked up and hush hush the music industry really is. It’s scary how many skeletons are hiding in the closet and we don’t even know most of it. I know its not even close to the only industry with major problems.

Thankfully people are feeling more comfortable to speak out and out these scum bags.

    England.

What’s worse is it’s just indicative of society as a whole. How many stories have we seen now of people in a position of trust, power or admiration abusing that power to abuse others? Music, movies, television, sport. Speaks to the character inside humans that so many go down that route when presented with those choices. Not all, of course, but far too many.

Anyone familiar with the Milgram obedience to authority study? Very different situation, yes, but it showed that the majority of people will harm an innocent victim given the ‘right’ circumstances. Of course, we should hold these perpetrators accountable, but we also can’t assume it’s just “those people” who cause harm and act morally superior and shocked when it happens. In terms of being solution oriented, we must teach children the value of life and that respect and kindness are paramount. Then maybe they’ll instill those values in their children and perhaps generations from now we will see less of this insidious behavior.

That is interesting. Two takeaways, for me. First, there were lots of replications of the original experiment, and in some nobody obeyed. Taking away the scientists white lab coat even reduced obedience because it’s a power symbol that was removed and possibly reduces implicit pressure. That goes to show that the circumstances have to be just right, as I mentioned. Perhaps those circumstances are being the lead singer of a famous band and having experienced your own trauma, which I would bet for sure that this guy has in one form or another. The ACE study finds that the majority of children in the US experience at least one form of significant trauma. Second, and this is something I was quite unaware of, Milgram really caused long term harm in his participants by failing to debrief and dehoax them properly. Sad irony.
