In Gourley and Rust parlance, it's hard to beat the coziness of this movie. Of course by today's standards, you wish it goes harder in the third act, they toe the line on whether Bad Ronald actually goes bad. While you see the effects of the loss of his mother and the isolation, that should've been ratcheted up even more. It's just an interesting cultural artifact moreso than a successful horror movie, if you really put yourself into the mindset of '70s TV viewer you can see why this lingered in the minds of a generation, why you can see it's DNA it a lot of films that came after, and why it's subsequently reached cult status. It's weird, I'm sure audience tuning in for a Wednesday night movie of the week were like wtf?

Is it recommended that we choose films we've seen already?

  4. Nope! I was using my Top 25 to pick films I wanted to revisit anyways, but there's also a good amount (such as Man Bites Dog) that I haven't seen that I'd like to pick at some point

Cool, cool. I'll definitely be doing a mix of both

I watched Event Horizon and it was weirder than I expected. Cool black hole effect though, that spinning thing was sick. Not sure how it was going to move the whole ship but hey, it’s a movie.

  8. Yeah, it has been a week from Hell and I will likely be playing catchup with Bad Ronald on Saturday along with whatever Friday's pick is, but shoutout to Daniel for hooking it up. I'm excited to watch!

For my first pick I'm going with The Collector from 2008. I haven't seen it so this will be a first timer for me. I guess it's like a home invasion meets Saw (not the biggest fan of the franchise but I loved Saw X) type deal so hopefully it's an interesting one.

    It's on Tubi and Prime!

The Collector is, I wouldn't say favorite, but a formative movie my wife watched all the time for the years. She says it was on Netflix when they didn't have a lot of movies, and she would watch it with friends like after school often. We're gonna go straight for the sequel tonight.

Awesome. May end up doing both this weekend.

  12. Oh hell yeah. The Collector is super underrated - basically Saw if it were a more suspense-driven home invasion thriller. And better than any Saw movie besides X. Shockingly good stuff, even when it's a little dumb. The sequel is definitely diminishing returns, but it's still fun. I hope people enjoy!

I will be catching up on Bad Ronald now that the weekend is here!

Have not seen The Collector. Saw was never really my bag, I saw the first in theaters and think I was out after that, but I've been thinking about going through them. This sounds like fun though.

Definitely had some issues with the Collector but I enjoyed it. Better than Saw too imo

I'm mad they randomly killed a cat. Like why? lol

Collector was written as a Saw prequel, but couldn't get the rights and it was reworked as an original idea.

Is the killer originally meant to be Kramer then?

Great pick! Haven’t seen The Collector! Gonna try and do both it and Bad Ronald this weekend

Just watched, bleak as I remember. Starting the sequel soon. It’s a good premise but such a silly execution at times.

The beginning of the Collection is like a thousand times for ridiculous than it needs to be. Such a massive escalation, also silly.

So yeah the Collection is definitely dumber but I had more fun with it. I appreciated the Ghost Ship-esque moment in the club. Feels like they were just like fuck the suspense let's turn up the nonsense in this one

I have no idea where the dude finds this much time to prepare. Everything is so elaborate, what a freak.
