I think it had a higher budget than the original and arrived under a different name? Looking into it now
I saw it recently and thought it was ok. Another movie where nothing really happens for a while. I liked when things started happening though.
Just popped in to this thread for this first time (?) in forever and it just so happens yall are watching The Greasy Strangler. Legit top 5 film ever for me. I love every second of it.
Okay ignore me lmao I am thinking about zmalum being a remake of Last Shift, which I was definitely confusing this for. I actually don't know if I've seen this one?
Haha, the posters are pretty similar so I can see why you mixed them up. That's great if it'll be a first time watch for you!
Definitely a first watch for me, just hit play. Already into the score and title card. Lots of Ti West vibes, feels like a mash-up of House of the Devil and MaXXXine
Not to take it back to the previous movie but regardless of how you feel about the greasy strangler, it’s undeniable that the music goes hard. the main theme is like children’s tv show opening song on acid
Everyone I've shown it too starts out thinking WTF and even after are still kinda like WTF but weeks, months, even years later are still mentioning parts of it to me and humming the theme.
Yeah, Starry Eyes rocked. Not perfect but I liked the scrappiness and that it felt like an independent feature. The lead was fantastic, and when I saw the same filmmakers did the 2019 Pet Sematary, it made sense considering I am the only person I know who really enjoys that flick
Sure! I wasn't in the past because I could never really commit to watching stuff but I'm gonna try now. Have no idea what I'd recommend though.
Yeah between The Greasy Strangler and Blood Beat and a handful of folk-horror films, we literally take it all over the map in here lol it's a good crowd
Starry Eyes was good. Obvious comparisons to The Substance. This might have been my first time seeing Alex Essoe, who I thought was great. Need to finally check out some of the Flanagan stuff she was in.
Yeah, Alex Essoe is great. She appears in a lot of Mike Flanagan’s projects but surprisingly has never had a main role in them (aside from Midnight Mass technically.) She needs to be in more things
Oh yeah I still think Starry Eyes is awesome. Alex Essoe really shines in her performance. Still one of my favorite face smashing scenes of all time too lol
