The top letterboxd review said it better than I could. taking the cult atmosphere from a real place and then making something would have been interesting, but this was not. Just an odd film.
Very odd considering how much I like Ti West and Joe Swanberg and found footage. Mumblecore Jonestown just didn't hit like it did when I was 19
For all its flaws I ended up still liking it. I wish it went somewhere besides a Jonestown ripoff, but I'm a sucker for found footage and Ti West. It's kind of funny that he didn't really even stick to the found footage conceit in a lot of places.
This was recently posted in the Horror thread but I've been hearing great things and a good friend just watched and won't shut up about it. This week's pick is the recently released Milk & Serial from comedy duo That's a Bad Idea. Sorry for anyone that's not a found footage fan for doing two in a row, but it's only an hour long.
This was a lot of fun! Very solid and unsettling lead performance. Doesn't exactly try a lot of new things, but there was at least one twist I wasn't expecting, and it does the Host/Creep via internet vlogger thing really well. A great pick with a perfect runtime. Found footage heads should enjoy this one!
Yeah this was fun. A great calling card for landing them a bigger production. The comedy to horror pipeline will have a lot written about it, but it's easy to see why the transition works so often both being all about timing and the build up and release of tension. Good performances all around and some nice twists. Really cool to see what they did with only $800.
Milk & Serial was a fun one. It went a little darker than I expected it to. Give me more hour long movies!
Echoing the feedback on Milk and Serial. Cool to see them make this jump into legitimate horror. Hope it does lead to something bigger
I believe I’m up next. I’m choosing Sea Fever from 2019. Just discovered the trailer for this last night so I apologize in advance if it’s bad lol. Looks like it could be Cabin Fever but at sea (as the title suggests lol) Tubi and Hulu have it
Oh my god, Sea Fever was GREAT literally until the last 10 minutes when the lead makes one of the dumbest horror movie decisions I've ever seen lol. SO frustrating. Still enjoyed the ride. And points for the Daughter song!
Just finished Sea Fever this morning. Yeah that was a pretty cool one. Also would have loved to see more of the creature but I’m sure that was a budget thing lol. Kinda agree with Aaron about the ending. Loved hearing Daughter too!
Still have like 10 minutes left to wrap up tonight, but this is more legit than I thought a movie called Sea Fever would be haha. Enjoying it quite a bit.
