I have been really bad about keeping up with the movies (3 jobs/family commitments) but the picks so far have been really interesting. I didn't think I would ever see Bad Boys but that is the point of the thread.
100% hahaha but you know it’s Michael Bay right off the bat cuz Bad Boys starts off with that super dark orange filter on everything.
Ive watched a bunch of video essays on bay's style but I just realised the only Michael Bay full movie experience i have was one of my friends making us watch tranformers 1 or 2 with a mocking comentary track over the top and it was one of the worst things ive ever sat through.
Bay Boys was ok, ive watched John Wick 4 (didnt like it) and Fast X recently and im actioned out. Will and Martins chemisty does most of the lifting while Bay will ocasionally flash some brillance in the camera. The script was weak and the side drama felt very 90s sitcomy.
the cameos were fun was going through Tea Leoni's filmography trying to remember what ive seen her in, very familar look and voice. Ive narrowed it down to, Spanglish, Jurassic Park 3 and Fun with Dick and Jane but no recollection of them, might be one could be all 3.
The Rock is one of the best action movies of all time. Pain and Gain is one of my least favorite movies I've ever watched.
I have somehow seen every Michael Bay except Bad Boys II and 6 Underground so far without actively making an effort to. Maybe I'll just finish off his career.
I watched Meek's Cutoff a couple of years ago, and thought the dialogue mixing and volume was a massive impediment to enjoying it. It was all those kind of mumbled whispered conversations, while the ambient sounds were drowning out the dialogue. I had to turn on subtitles pretty quickly, just to be able to pick up what was being spoken, and even then I couldn't really hear the dialogue. Maybe it was an issue with the copy I had, on my TV speakers or something, but it really was a struggle.
Yep had the same experience, I started watching last night but stopped because the subtitles werent lining up (im going to find a better version). It looks like a money problem more than an artistic choice, recording quiet dialogue outside is always tough and im guessing they just didnt have the budget to get the actors back in for ADR
When I watched Meek's Cutoff I accidentally had the "zoom" picture setting on and saw it at the wrong aspect ratio unfortunately
Finished Meeks Cutoff. This was awesome. Really enjoyed the subversion of the a western to focus on the women and how realistic to the dynamic and compelling it felt. Hands down favourite scene was when Meek tried to say some blood meridian shit and Michelle Williams looks at him. Read a great article where Kelly talks about not having a enough money to shoot the orginal ending. Kelly Reichardt: how I trekked across Oregon for Meek's Cutoff then returned to teaching God Bless Kelly Reichardt
Meeks Cutoff is incredible but the sound really sucks. Got my ears blown off by a runaway wagon after struggling to hear dialogue
Finally got around to watching Sorcerer, a dark and gritty tale of desperate men trapped in an unforgivingly desperate situation. Exploring themes of redemption, sacrifice, and despair, the film dives into the depths of human desperation. However, as the characters attempt to grapple with their own demons, it only serves to fill you with a sense of their impending doom. Loved it
