Yeah, Dead Ringers did a lot more for me on second watch - it actually jumped up to the five spot in my Cronenberg ranking. He's just so good at making human worlds feel alien and humanizing terrible people. His mark on this one is actually pretty restrained to the singular dream sequence and the "tools," although the red surgical outfits reminded me of Jacob's Ladder a bit. Jeremy Irons is just so, so good in this dual role - you almost always know which twin is on screen just by how he carries himself. Funnier than I remember, too, but the humor is pitch black. I hope others are also able to get something out of it
can we swap weeks or would that be annoying? just going to be out of town for a funeral half of the week
I pick Thief. I’m sure many have already seen it but it’s maybe my favorite movie and I love more about it with each rewatch. It’s streaming on prime, showtime and the criterion channel.
Oh hell yeah. Has anyone ever shot cities at night better than Michael Mann? And for him to have it down that well on his FIRST movie? Nuts.
Dead Ringers didnt work for me. Hard to say why, when Cronenberg gets you its over but this time he didnt. I felt the same with Eternal Daughter in that I dont enjoy watching actors acting agaisnt themselves for a whole moive, even when the actors performance is good the kind of editing it forces gets fatiguing and it feels gimicky when its prolonged across the film.
I am slightly behind due to movies I had to watch for my (and others') podcast, but I am finishing Dial M for Murder tonight and Thief is next up. Is it still on Prime?
Just Watched Thief. Id completely forgotten how that movie ended. so cool also "why dont you join a labour union" "im wearing it" sick
Likely going to have to bow out at this point with school starting next week but I will report back with my thoughts on Thief!
