Watched Ikarie XB 1 last night. I loved it, but I'm still processing what it means to me at the moment. I didn't expect to get pulled into this as much as I did. There is an incredible tension and sense of dread to it once you hit the 30-minute mark that ceases to let up until the final moments. Masterful work.
Same. Still processing as well. I don’t want to discuss too much until more people have seen it in here. But it really is like the perfect mid point between Alien, Star Trek and 2001. Feels like a missing puzzle piece.
looks like Ikarie XB-1 is on youtube, can anyone confirm this is the right version before I watch it?
I have a downloaded copy, if anybody would prefer a file as opposed to a YouTube stream, please feel free to give me a shout.
That feels like a perfect description of it. It has elements from all three, but obviously came before so I wouldn't be surprised if it influenced all three.
I just did the free trial of the Criterion Channel to watch it. I'm gonna try to catch a few more things there before my trial ends.
No problem - will do that tonight. Apologies, not sure what I've done to my profile so I can't be DM'd!
Peeping Tom: I can’t say enough about the colors, performances, camera work, and cinematography. But I think the script is lacking at times and don’t think it reaches the highs of a Hitchcock. American Movie: While I like them, hard for me to connect with documentaries; really enjoyed this, though. I was struck by the humor and my admiration, but also the underlying sadness I felt and that runs throughout. Taste of Cherry: Beautiful, thought provoking, and moving. Incredible lead performance and some great shots that hit me hard as well.
yeah when I finally watched it earlier this year I couldn’t even find a used copy so I had to snag it.
Saw Ikarie a year or two ago when the restoration played at the Brattle. I got the same “missing link” vibes. Honestly I could do with a rewatch
