Dug Songs from Suicide Bridge a good amount. I agree that it feels a little too long, maybe because a lot of the songs have a very similar pacing. My favorite one I think is Life and Times on the Bench, neat guitar work in that one. Might be on a folk kick now, haven’t listened to the genre much the last few years

I was in the woods for a week and not on this site much, I wish I had remembered to check the thread because this album would've been pretty solid to listen to while sitting around a fire. I'm digging it so far

  5. Enjoying this a decent amount, though I probably should have gotten to it last week when it was freezing cold and dreary instead of today when it's 65 and sunny. I prefer when this leans a little more folk/country/whatever you call City and Colour ("Angel of Mercy") versus the more proto-slowcore stuff, though the latter seems to be more what the album is known for. Really neat guitar work on a lot of these songs too. It does drag a bit for me, but it also might land perfectly when I'm in the right mood.

Apologies for not giving my usual timely reminder but today is your turn @Ellamamama

  7. Really like Songs from Suicide Bridge. Struggling to place some of the comparisons i’m hearing, but On the Beach Neil Young is definitely one of them. Granted I hear Neil in everything. Not just in the folk/slight country vibe, but in the melancholy that permeates. It’s always there but doesn’t define the sound - if these were instrumental tracks they’d feel more dramatic than depressing. How I feel about On the Beach as well

  8. Definitely hear that

I’ve tried starting the album a few times, but I never find myself in the right mood for it. Definitely something I need to be in the exact headspace to listen to too.

I see them mentioned on this forum from time to time. It’s one of those mid-’00s albums and sounds that quietly disappeared with the times. It came out during my junior year of high school and I remember being instantly hooked by the guitar tones and the way the lyrics capture both love gained and love lost. I still come back to regularly and it sounds just as big and hooky to me now as it did the first time I heard it. Looking forward to hearing what y’all think of it.

  14. I listened to the Miles Davis album a few days ago but can’t remember if I mentioned it on here. I was sick with the flu. Butttt that album was such a great morning listen while I chugged hot tea. I need to dive more into his other stuff.

A bit conflicted on this one on first listen. I dig parts of the opener, Stay, The Moment, and Gone Away. The production is admittedly great. As @Ellamamama mentioned, the guitar tones are very nice and the vocalist is talented enough. But the songwriting isn’t cutting it for me. The lyrics are weak and eye-roll-inducing at times (Annie). At times this reminds me of Christian rock or something I might hear in a department store. That said, this brings me back to 2008 and it’s nice to be transported for a bit.

  16. I'm surprised this SafetySuit album was never on my radar considering how much it's pulling from Switchfoot and Lifehouse, my two favorite bands around the time it came out. Agreed with @OotyPa that the songwriting is the weak spot, but it sounds great otherwise, and it at least got me interested in checking out the rest of their fairly small discography too.

if anything, I found it an interesting example of how good production can really elevate something that wouldn't otherwise do it for me
