Really enjoying the Charles "Packy" Axton collection. Feels instantly familiar even if I had never consciously heard his name before.
Okay, it was a toss-up here. Do i pick something more recent or do I go for a deep cut? I'm going to post my most recent out-of-the-box AOTY, which would be the 2022 debut of Domi & JD Beck entitled NOT TiGHT. It brings new jazz fusion center stage courtesy of Blue Note. Prodigious levels of skill converge with plenty of guest features from Busta Rhymes to Thundercat and Herbie Hancock's fingerprints are all over this one. Not sure if this an obvious pick or not, but it absolutely blindsided me when I stumbled upon it. Favorite Tracks: SMiLE, BOWLiNG, and Take A CHANCE
Oh yeah, this album is the shit. Saw them live a couple of years ago too and they were great. It’s nice and warm in London today and I’m out and about and listening to Ezra Collective and this album will be the perfect follow up
Can’t believe it’s been 4 years since it came out, feels like yesterday I was seeing their reels on IG of them doing various hip hop covers.
Good pick! I remember really digging this album when it came out. I’m excited to give it another spin though !
Listening now. Been awhile since I’ve heard this so it sounds fresh to my ears. What a vibe. Only criticism I have is something I can’t even really articulate. Maybe someone else can help me understand what it is? There’s something about the drums here that make them sound tinny or machinelike. I especially notice it when we get that skittering percussion which I’d typically be into but it caught me off-guard here. As far as guest vocalists, .Paak is the clear star here. Dude rarely ever falters for me and his features elevate this into the stratosphere.
I definitely know what you're talking about, but for whatever reason, it works for me here just because of the sound they're going for. .Paak and Mac tracks are great
