Fun fact: The Bangles had a more successful cover of "Going Down to Liverpool" so at least your guess was tangentially related.

I really dug this San Fermin album , first time ever listening to them. Also hear The National in this. The male and female vocals are great but it’s the tracks with no vocals that really stand out. Can definitely see this doubling as a score for some film with gorgeous cinematography haha

  4. Catching up on Katrina and the Waves. Liked a lot of this, but "Do You Want Crying" is the real standout. Immediately pitched it to my band as something we should cover. I love that chorus and the guitar playing all over the song.

Listening to San Fermin right now. Enjoying the orchestral flourish

  6. This San Fermin album is really good! The male singer sounds like homeboy from The National. I prefered the female vocal songs. I really like this.

I enjoyed San Fermin quite a bit. the album as a whole feels cohesive and I think you'd be doing yourself a disservice by only checking individual tracks from this. I definitely hear The National at times, but I'm also reminded of the Alan Sparhawk / Trampled by Turtles album from last year. a couple moments also edge toward Sufjan Stevens territory. particularly enjoyed the songs Sonsick and Bar, but as I said it's a full package listen.

  9. MOURN - SELF WORTH (2020)

Mourn is from Barcelona, Spain. BFFs Jazzy and Carla released their first album together in 2015, eventually added Jazzy's sister Leia to the band on bass, and they've have had a couple different drummers over the years. I don't remember exactly when or where I discovered Mourn a few years ago, but their 2020 album Self Worth has been on a pretty constant rotation for me since it came out. Enjoy!

    "I'd Kill To Fall Asleep"

I had never heard of this band before but this album was really really good! Nice pick @bradsonemanband. This album flew by I actually listened to it twice. Hard to pick my favorite track on the album, maybe Call You Back but for real every song was really good. I’ll definitely be checking out there other stuff. This is why I like this group! Can it be Wednesday again so I can get another album to check out.

  12. I’m happy you enjoyed it! “I’m in Trouble” is on basically every playlist I’ve made from 2020 to now. Haha.

Overall really enjoyed Mourn. Sounds like something in line with Momma, Snail Mail, feeble little horse, Cryogeyser, Jay Som… that vibe.

  18. Liking San Fermin more than I thought. Really cool arrangements, especially on Crueler King - gorgeous stuff going on that one. I definitely hear Berninger in his voice but there’s something else it’s reminding me of too that I can’t quite place. Love a band that swaps off singers like this. Back half kinda rolled over me more than the first half but very pretty, extremely well arranged stuff. Good rec. Will get to Mourn this week

  21. Going backwards to catch up on the last few. Mourn is really dope, definitely right up my alley. "I'm in Trouble" and "Gather, Really" stand out - I like when their sound leans into Mannequin Pussy territory.

I feel horrible because I’ve not kept up with this, but my pick would be

I got into this record this year on the recommendation from a jazz head friend of mine and it has become my favorite jazz record I’ve heard. Inspired by Taoism, this collection of music made by one spiritual session by 3 masters of their craft has spoken to me a lot this year

Fun fact: the first 5 songs make up the actual album as it was first released. The rest were other tracks they included on the CD reissue
