Hell yeah. I enjoy the little I’ve heard of King Krule but don’t think I’ve ever checked out a full album by him
Spinning this now before I go backwards. "Dum Surfer" is one of the coolest songs I've ever heard lol. It's like post-punk that evolves into incorporate some psychedelic jazz shit. I love the feedback at the beginning that sounds like you're walking up to a venue and hearing the bass from outside or something. Also, his flow on "Biscuit Town" when he's like "He left the crime scene without the Motorola..." is smooth as hell lol. Just effortlessly cool.
Really enjoy his live performances, both on the live record he put out and the Live on the Moon video I posted above. There used to be a great Late Show (Conan, maybe?) performance of "Dum Surfer," but I can't seem to find it now. "Lonely Blue" has always been my favorite, and still crushes me. "That boy, he's just a puke stain/That girl, she made me mutate"
Sorry for blowing up the thread as I listen. There also used to be a great video of Tyler, the Creator moshing to "Half Man Half Shark" at Coachella lol. Archy is uncredited playing guitar on "GONE, GONE / THANK YOU" from IGOR. He's also the only artist I know that reportedly declined to collaborate with Kanye, which I think rules and is very funny.
I remember being impressed when I’ve listened to guy in the past but haven’t done so in a long time. Excited
I do think this one could use a stronger editor in the backhalf -- I would personally cut "Cadet Limbo," "A Slide In (New Drugs)," and "Bermondsey Bosom (Right)" -- but the unwieldiness is part of the attraction to me. He really throws a lot at the wall over the span of an hour and it's impressive how much of it sticks, imo.
Jlin is dope. Very sparse even with the vocal samples. The second track was grating on me a little, but "Kyanite" and :Holy Child" in particular are dope. OPN vibes, which I'm always here for.
The Ooz is a 10/10 record. His whole discography is stellar, but The Ooz is his masterpiece. Sticking it on now.
Hell yeah. Listening to Deas Vail right now and very pleasantly surprised! Still a little concerned about the Safetysuit record because this kind of pop-rock really isn't what I go for anymore, but the songwriting and production here are solid, and his voice is really nice. First three tracks are very good.
Dum Surfer was the song that properly turned me onto him. I had heard some of 6 Feet… and didn’t get on with it (I still can’t stand Easy Easy for some reason), but I randomly came across Dum Surfer on IG and was immediately intrigued. Then listened to the album and became a fan.
I get the same feeling with The Ooz as I get with the Untrue. It’s got that walking in the rain in London under the orange street lamps feel that Untrue has and I love it.
Already love kk but I normally go for 6 feet or this live set, pumped to give the ooz another listen now
I remember listening to this when it came out. A bit long and not really my style anymore. It does make me want to listen to Beck though for some reason. I respect the talent but not something I’d come back to unfortunately.
dude has such a grimy ass voice that works perfectly within the atmosphere of this album. really fitting the shit weather today
in a different world, this guy would never be allowed to touch a microphone. we are blessed that this is not that world. really enjoyed this pick. I love the jazzy atmosphere and the wistful, elegant textures juxtaposed with his desperately barking voice. a lot of beautiful subtle details in the production--rainfall, echoing harmonies, the spoken word parts. seems like the kind of album that would benefit from repeat listens.
