Absolutely! Adding you to the rotation.

Will listen to Deas Vail tomorrow

Deas Vail reminded me a little more of Jack’s Mannequin than SoCo, but I suppose I’m splitting hairs with that one. The album really begins to lean into a Circa Survive influence once it gets to Birds (which was probably my favorite song on the album). Overall, it’s a decent album, but to me it felt like it more mimics the Circa and JM sounds without really doing anything truly unique with them and it ultimately just made me want to listen to those bands again. I could see myself revisiting a song or two from it, but I don’t think it’ll be a regular in my rotation.

Thanks. I’ll give it a listen today and give my thoughts on it. I’ll try to check out past reccs as well. Thanks! Looking forward to this.

Just finished Deas Vail - Birds & Cages. For some reason I’ve never listened to this band before even though their album All The Houses Look the Same has been following me and been recommended to me for years by various algorithms. It’s probably because Emery are one of my favorite bands I’m guessing. I didn’t know this prior to listening to this album. About 4 tracks in I thought “hmmm this sounds like a Christian rock band” so I checked and turns out I was right. Nothing wrong with that at all. Loved some Tooth & Nail bands. I get the comparisons to Jack’s Mannequin and even a bit of the Circa Survive as well. This would have probably hit me better if it was a nicer day out and not a rainy gloomy Saturday. Not bad, not great, but worth a listen

This is your life, are you who you want to be?

Such a great album. I'll always have a super soft spot for that era and scene along with Lydia, Mae, and Copeland. Great pick!

Ahh, Lydia is a pretty good comparison. I haven’t listened to them in ages.

Ok working my way backwards and just finished Jlin - Black Origami….just not my thing, but I’m not too keen on any sort of electronic music for the most part to be honest. Made my brain buzz in not a good way. I’ll be ok though!

Deas Vail needs a bit more of an edge or something unpredictable to get me going. Absolutely sounds like Mae, who I also never really got deep into for similar reasons. I agree with @I Am Mick that it’s a bit twee for me nowadays. The instrumentation is real pretty and consistently verges on something interesting—but never quite gets there. I do agree that the vocalist has a nice voice.

Next previous pick is SafetySuit - Life Left to Go. This was much nicer to listen to than Jlin for me. It feels like this is in the same wheelhouse as the Deas Vail album. Reminded me of Anberlin or Acceptance at some points. Another album I’ve somehow never checked out even though I’ve seen the cover of the album a million times.

Just finished DavidKauffman and Eric Caboor - Songs from Suicide Bridge, it started off nicely. I liked the first 2 tracks quite a bit. I really liked the guitar work on the second song especially. Then it kind of fell off for me. The middle stretch of 3, 7-8 minute songs really took me out of it. Reminded me of James Taylor or Neil Young or what I want Bob Dylan to sound like to me.

Just finished Blind Melon - Soup. I don’t think I’ve heard this album since it came out in 1995. I was 13 years old. I didn’t really understand it then and I’m not sure I even do now over 30 years later! Woah that’s a long time ago…..anyway, I think I enjoyed it more now than I did then. Definitely not as good as their self titled album, which was everywhere when it came out (thanks dancing bee girl). Shannon Hoon’s voice is incredible and it’s sad that their career was cut short. It was nice to hear his voice again it’s been a long time since I’ve heard it. I’ll have to go listen to the self titled again soon. Thanks for picking this one!

Hell yeah @edisnfg thanks for the catch up. Hope you dig the Lizzy Descloux album if you get to it. It’s a banger

    "I'd Kill To Fall Asleep"

Just finished the Jamie T - Kings & Queens album. I really liked it a lot. I’ve seen his name before but never checked him out. I’ll have to check his other albums if they are like this one. I really liked Ren and The Skinner Brothers album Sick Sick Soul Vol. 1 from last year and although this album was different still has some similarities with the music and flow of the album. So if you like this alybut haven’t heard that one I recommend checking that out. Good pick

Still playing catch up, listened to Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain. I’m familiar with Miles Davis’s a bit but had never listened to this one before. I liked it overall. Just remember “if peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis” - Billy Madison

And final catch up listen the Lizzy Descloux - Mambo Nassau album. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I’ve never heard of her before and didn’t know what to expect but it was definitely cool. Interested to check out some other stuff from her. Seems like she was pretty prolific outside of music as well. Cool pick!

@edisnfg I’m impressed by your quick catch up and glad you liked the Jamie T record! I’ll have to check out Sick Sick Soul Vol. 1. It sounds like it’ll be up my alley.

I listen to a lot of music. I work from home so that helps for sure. When my 3 year old lets me listen to things I want of course. Let me know if you end up checking out that Sick Sick Soul album. Are the other Jamie T albums similar to Kings & Queens?

For sure! I’m always down for checking out something new. Even if it’s not my style. Everything so far has been interesting at least. I’m wondering how some of you even came across these albums. What will I even recommend when it’s my turn?
