I’ve fallen super far behind in this thread and gona try to catch up on some things I missed. The Ebu Gogo record is sick. The Doctor Who synths and Lightning Bolt comparisons are spot on. Pretty awesome so far also video game boss music
Ebu Gogo is a fun proggy ride but ultimately not my thing. Will check out Gruvis Malt at some point to see if that lands for me more.
This caught me off guard lol. But since I can't stop listening to it, you all are going to have to too... Age of Apocalypse - In Oblivion
nice. no idea what this sounds like, assuming it's metal or metal-adjacent here is the album on spotify for everyone
Hah, I just listened to this the other day. It was okay, the songs were pretty good but the vocals are not what I'm looking in that kind of hardcore personally
It's metal/hardcore. Vocals are definitely atypical to most modern/popular metal/hardcore but I can't get enough. Hopefully I can put at least one person on.
Ebu Gogo was fun. It reminded me of the Battles album posted in here. It’s got that same control chaos kind of energy, only this one feels like it could be dropped in a Tim Burton Batman film.
Age of Apocalypse has some cool stuff going on. Every once in a while I get in the mood for some old school metal and it's neat to hear a modern take on that genre that has some newer hardcore influence too. Not sure it's something I'll play a ton but I'm glad I checked it out.
Yeah this is a cool mix of "spray paint a sick skeleton on a van" metal and hardcore. The vocals took me by surprise but they work. Good pick
Age of Apocalypse is a solid metal core album. It doesn’t break the mold much for me but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. I was worried I’d hate the vocals based on the comments, however they were one of the better parts for me. It’s not the typical overly glossy cleans broken up by overused guttural growls. They felt a little more gritty which.
I posted this in the recommendations thread, but figured I’d get some feelers out in here too. I had an idea for a thread, I don’t know if anyone would be interested in. It’d be a periodic member curated playlist, maybe monthly or bi-weekly designed around a theme. The idea would kind of be in the same vein as record/film of the week club and the covers threads we’ve done in the past. So for example, since we’re coming up to the holiday travel season the theme could be “Songs for a Layover” and everyone picks one song that represents that theme and then we compile it into one playlist to share and discover new music. This idea really stems from my frustration with algorithm generated playlists just giving me the same songs I’ve already been listening to, but also enjoying more curated weekly list like The Amplifier, etc. It could be an easy way to share some our favorites, while maybe being more active since just picking one song is a lower barrier to entry than a whole album. I know these “club” types threads usually die down after a few months, but I still think it could be fun. Also if everyone is picking something every go around, it could (maybe) stay more active.
We have a Music League, which is basically this, but weekly and with a game attached (which you could ignore)
@aoftbsten We’re on the final round of our current season, which will wrap up on Wednesday. I imagine the next season will begin a week or two after that, at which point it will be open for you to join! The Chorus.fm Music League Thread • forum.chorus.fm
I should join that when it opens again, but I also miss just having an album to listen to each week and discussing here. Would be down to try again if folks are open to it. An album a week really isn’t that hard IMO.
@The Lucky Moose @trevorshmevor Oh nice, I had no idea this existed. Thanks! I’ll probably join for next season then.
