still grooving on trousdale. shared with my sis and niece who i feel like are a hard sell. they love t-swift though, and my sister said it was an instant love by my niece within two measures. reminds me of maren morris, t-swift, alana springsteen. i could see them fitting in easily at the newport folk festival’s sort of “new era”.
Looks like this poster is on the list and active on the site but has never posted in this thread. We should give it a few hours then move on. @WadeCastle you’re on deck
Trousdale album is pretty enjoyable. Can't Get Your Love Back is massive and will remain in my head for a while
Forrest Swords - Compassion Spotify Youtube Music The second full-length from UK electronic artist Forest Swords focuses more acutely on the music’s organic elements. It retains the uncanny qualities he’s known for, but with dashes of hope.
I was worried for the first minute or two of Compassion, but then it starts to come together. There’s a lot of interesting things going on under the surface. Arm’s out is my favorite so far (five more tracks to go).
I think Forest Swords is one of the coolest names I’ve ever heard haha. But yeah, this was really cool. I prefer the slower, more atmospheric tracks. Feels so cinematic at times
i have posted before but after i was skipped over on this wave i decided to move on, plus im bad at keeping up in here, the yuck album was great though, been spinning it a lot. cheers
Apologies but you’re like a week late on this my dude. We only skip after 24 hours go by. We could probably fit you next round in the rotation if everyone is cool with it. If not, you can go before my turn when we get to it
no i was after flask originally but then someone else went, i had an album ready to go but it's all good, i unfollowed this thread.
I spun Compassion a couple more times. It has a very industrial sound overall, which really works for me. Vandalism was another standout for me. The intense beat with those haunting vocals overlayed sets such a dark tone. Then the horn interlude welcomes in those faint little chimes. There is such a well constructed sense of foreboding throughout.
I’m behind because I’m traveling in Japan this week. Will post my Forest Swords reaction when I return
It’s amazing. We’re staying at a traditional inn right now. Just woke up after sleeping on a tatami mat—feels surreal after spending so much of my life as a huge fan of Ghibli, Nintendo, and tons of Japanese music. Just may have to choose an album from here when it gets to my turn!
I’m going with a release from last year: Mabe Fratti - Sentir Que No Sabes Discovered this artist from the music league on this forum. She is a cellist/vocalist from Guatemala. This record is so fucking cool, man. Some of these songs sound like they could score a horror film. Wikipedia says her genre is avant-garde/experimental so let’s just go with that because I honestly don’t know how to describe it lol
We stayed at a traditional inn as well. Fantastic experience. The Ghibli museum was fully booked when we were there, unfortunately. But we did go to the TeamLabs exhibits in Tokyo, which lived up to the hype. If you find yourself in Sapporo, we stumbled upon a jazz club there called Slowboat which was incredible. I’d never actually seen a live jazz performance before. It blew my mind. The drummer was Ittetsu Takemura and he was mesmerizing to watch.
That sounds fantastic. We are in Kyoto now after a few days in Tokyo. Unfortunately not visiting the Ghibli museum either but still cool to see all Mononoke-isms at the Shinto shrines and such. So great to contextualize the films with the actual history. I saw my first jazz concert with Andre 3000 in Philly a few months back. Absolutely mindblowing experience. I’ll have to check out Takemura’s stuff—appreciate the rec!
