I will most likely get to this album next week but I did listen to the first two tracks and I’m intrigued
The People in Planes record was pretty cool. Not sure if it’s a fair comparison since I don’t really listen to their music but they remind me a bit of Queens of the Stone Age. Token Trapped Woman was probably my favorite
I can see the QOTSA comparison in the riffier tunes. I think QOTSA is a little more straightforward guitar rock, but I'm also not super familiar with them.
This is who I was thinking of haha. A much proggier version, but they have some Queens of the Stone Age vibes for sure.
Liked the People In Planes album quite a bit. Parts of it reminded me of Muse if they didn’t go fully off the rails crossed with some emo/math-leaning stuff like Small Leaks Sink Ships.
It’s been a hard month for me since I’m listening to something new every day anyway for MWE. But I’m still down to keep going. Listening to People in Planes now. Absolutely agree it sounds like Muse. This thread is just so dull it’s hard to remember when barely anyone is posting in it. Maybe we can breathe new life by tagging new people to join? Or create a new thread? Idk, i’ve made this suggestion before but nothing came of it and things seemed to have gotten even quieter.
People in Planes is not my usual cup of tea but I can’t deny the musicianship. I’m not typically huge on arena rock, if that’s what you call this. That said, the mid-section of the album is great, everything from “Token Trapped Woman” to “Penny.” The rest sort of washes over me but I like the more experimental moments.
Yeah I got thrown off by trying to catch up then kept missing notifs for this thread and now I'm way too behind. I would be down for a new thread at the beginning of next month to hit restart post-MWE.
Genuine question, what's the difference between starting a new thread or just pausing and restarting here in March? It gets bumped in the forum regardless whenever anybody posts. I don't mind a new thread, just curious. (I'm also content to keep it moving, but I don't expect that to be the consensus here.)
I guess it’s not much difference, but maybe folks will be more inclined to join a new thread? The non-participatory people seem to ignore notifications for this thread whenever they come. It might be worth creating something new, retagging all the old folks, inviting some new others, and give this a feeling of a fresh start.
I'm good either way, but on the topic of the People in Planes record, the first half didn't grab me but there were some real highs in the back half (I specifically really like My Black Widow, which reminded me of Resignation/And The Battle Begun-era Rx Bandits a little).
If no one wants to create the new thread, I’ll do it. But please, people, plug the thread or else it’s a wasted effort.
I don’t really see the point of a new thread, but I’m cool with that. but we are in the middle of a rotation, it would be cool to get some new blood in here but I don’t think it’s fair to the people who are next in line to get skipped over
So, what then? Do we keep this same thread? At the very least, let’s get some new people in here. I’ll post in my fav threads inviting peeps if others do the same.
Either start a new thread, and start the new round with the people who still need to pick and add in new people after that, or invite people to this thread? I’m cool with whatever, I just don’t want people to get skipped.
Yeah I say keep this one. I unfortunately think the people who are posting in here are the best we have in terms of the club. Even I fall off from time to time. I’d love if more people joined
sure. i've got a weekly record club with some people in a facebook group i'm a part of. i enjoy listening to music on the regular and finding / sharing. count me in.
I would be down but much like the film of the week threads, I'm terrible at keeping up and that seems to be the downfall of all these threads and I don't want to be a source of that. But I'll lurk and try to listen/contribute when I have time
I would rather have people that chime in every once in a while than no discussion at all. For what it’s worth most of my input is like “I liked this!” Or “not for me.” I just like getting recommendations weekly and hearing stuff I might not have heard before
I just sharted a million annoying posts all over the forum promoting this thread so hopefully that works! You guys are welcome to do the same anywhere else! Also tagging everyone who is already playing.
