Daniel Striped Tiger was solid. Twenty six minutes was a perfect length. It reminded me a lot of Bear vs Shark in moments with maybe a little darker edge.
This post sounds exactly like you think it would sound. They nailed it. It’s fine though. Thanks for the pick.
This is cool so far. About midway through. Her voice reminds me of a punchier Kacey Musgraves. My wife would probably dig this album a lot. Already added a few songs to a playlist we share.
Going to Hell and For the Record are fantastic songs. This ends on a really high note. Great choice! Guess I’ll have to check out Failer next.
Listened to this in the car today and had a lovely time. I don't listen to a lot of folksy singer-songwriters — on occasion, cynically and wrongly referring to broad groups of them as ‘sentimental drivel’ — but the quality of this album is sky high. Knowing Justin Vernon is involved, you can associate his particular blend of lushness and intimacy within two seconds. But her voice is all loveliness and silk, and these modestly catchy melodies seem to drop off her like windfall fruit, to the extent that, whether stripped back like House Full of Empty Rooms, or rockier like Mint — I really like that those two show up consecutively — or somewhere in between, almost every song was a breeze to enjoy. Interesting that @Craig Manning mentioned the autumnal colours (obviously established by the album cover), because I realised at some point that my subconscious mind was lit with pastel purples and pinks. Something of her voice and the textured warmth I guess. Really nice pick.
Listened to Voyageur the other day and I really liked it. The arrangements are really incredible on this record and Kathleen's vocals and guitar playing are a delight. And as a person who plays organ sometimes I want all my organ parts to work as well as the ones on this record do haha
Also really enjoyed this. Lush and beautiful all the way through. I think "House Full of Empty Rooms" is my initial favorite.
I think I might've enjoyed Failer more than Voyageur - it's less Kacey Musgraves and more Lucinda Williams on that one. Fantastic stuff. Are those two considered her best albums? Think I'd like to dig in deeper.
Loved the Kathleen Edwards record. Last three songs are the standouts for me, especially Going to Hell. Gonna have to check out her other stuff
I’m gonna keep listen to Voyageur this week. I’ve really connected with this one. It starts off in a delightful tongue in cheek way (“I’m moving to America, it’s an empty threat”). And there’s no misses from there. The whole album has often had a soft folksy sound, but never becomes dull like that sound sometimes can feel on a full length. I even get a little The Cranberries vibe from Change The Sheets. And the last fo
I listened to the Daniel Striped Tiger album a few times yesterday, I dig it. Felt very nostalgic. Instrumentally it reminded me of Hot Cross at times gona try to get to Voyageur at work tonight if it’s not too busy
