  1. It's definitely got hot summer night vibes, but psychedelic guitar tones in general just aren't really my thing. Clearly talented players though.

This is extremely good. Really feels like they found a unique, insulated sound that’s instantly transportive to Thailand, even though I’ve never actually been there. I’d agree the strongest part is the middle but I still have a few songs to go.

They are just a band that has a cart of amps and speakers and sets up in random places and play which would be so sick to stumble on. I believe both of their albums are recorded live like this and largely improvised

I actually went back listened to their first album as well. Seems even more jammy than the second. Great, great culturally-expanding stuff.

Obviously different, but it reminded me of this recent discovery, an Afro-Peruvian “chicha” band (a psychedelic take on Colombian “cumbia” pop music mixed with Westernized rock). In the late 70s, five of their members were killed in a plane crash—sorta irrelevant but an interesting fact about them lol. Great Amazonian sound to this album though.

I was torn before picking their first or second, I think I like how groovy II is more.

I’ll have to check out that album when I’m not at work and can actually hear anything

The Randy Newman album was a real surprise. I also only really knew him from Toy Story, but this record is really unique. The lyrics are feel darker than I’d expect, but in a very tongue in cheek way (Political Science being one of the peaks of this style). His voice is goofy, but in an endearing and disarming way. It makes songs like Lonely At The Top hit that much harder.

I can see this one staying in regular rotation for me.

  7. Hell yeah. Glad it stuck with someone! "Political Science" is one of my favorites as well.

  9. This was great, especially liked the back half where I feel like the phin got louder and shriller and more prominent. Lovely groovy trippy little record. Like if Khruangbin was interesting (sorry)

I think I need visuals to enjoy this. It's very nice but too ignorable on its own for me to love.

If I found the right black-and-white silent film to put this atop — something light, rural, with lots of movement and a layer of pathos — I think I'd be more positive on it.

I do really like the groovy thrust of Thang Jai Thang Jao.

I went on a run with it, which really worked because it def has this psychedelic quality about it that makes you zone out. I liked that though.

sometimes when I’m camping alone towards the end of the night I’ll throw a few songs on and just stare at the fire. Feel like it works really well in that setting

  13. Dug the Kuhn Narin record, I feel like I generally don't gravitate towards psych but I feel like every time I get recommended a band that's -adjacent I enjoy it.

Checked out the Kuhn Narin album this morning. Pretty cool stuff, not something I'd listen to a ton but I can appreciate it

my selection for this week is going to be Ween - Chocolate and Cheese. the original album ends with the track “Don’t Shit Where You Eat”. I would never ask y’all to listen to the deluxe edition of this or any other album but if you would like to then go right ahead. this album informed my experience as a music listener since the very first time I heard it, more than ten years ago at this point. it’s eclectic and multifaceted in its approach to everything it sets out to do. so if you’re bored with it, it’s probably on you tbh. hope you all enjoy

I really like the sincerity-in-insincerity. Makes me think of Mike Patton across most of his projects.

Delicious production choices on the percussion; especially the snare on Roses Are Free, a scrumptiously tight tone that doesn't poison the mix, followed by the perfectly slight drums on Baby Bitch, a bittersweet beaut of a song.

Almost no song seems to be merely a good song, there being such a streamlined excess of creativity. Every experiment seems to work.

it does start off a lot stronger than it ends but there are still quite a few songs on the backend that are great too.

The only Ween album I’ve heard is The Mollusk and it didn’t quite click for me though I did like some songs. Looking forward to how I feel about this one.
