Just finished the Nmesh album. I appreciate how fuckin weird it is, though I’m just not the biggest fan of electronica(?) stuff. I do think it would be a trip to listen to while I’m high and falling asleep at night. About to listen Alex G
Yeah this Alex G album rules. I was really only familiar with his soundtrack for Worlds Fair, but this is better
Oh man, much better. I mean I like that score but it's weird, even for me (and even as someone who likes ambient-instrumental). Really only go back to the opening and closing songs on that thing, and the typing game song lol. Good score, just not something I love to listen to outside of its context.
I've always had a hard time getting into anything in this lo-fi/bedroom pop/slowcore space, and I really didn't like the first song on this at all, but I'm finding more to enjoy as it goes on. About halfway through the album, and "Mission" is my favorite track so far.
Those last couple tracks are certainly more in my wheelhouse. I like when he's hinting at a more driving indie rock/folk sound and also when he gets really weird with the production like on "SDOS," but there's still some in-between that I don't connect with. I do remember liking the score when I watched We're All Going To the World's Fair, so I should probably revisit that too.
It also sounds like you should give Rocket and/or DSU a listen, the former is the closest he gets to a folk/country-adjacent record and the latter is closer to being a straightforward indie rock singer-songwriter record. Both great, but also, I'm obviously a fan. Thanks for listening!
@I Am Mick can make his pick whenever he'd like. Thanks to everyone who listened to and engaged with my pick!
Oh shit I thought I was next week. I’m gona go with I Would Set Myself On Fire For You - Believes In Patterns from 2006. they released two brilliant albums of experimental screamo and broke up in 2007, but their final album Believes On Patterns was massive for me at the time and I still listen to it pretty regularly.
really enjoying Believes in Patterns - incredibly talented. they remind me of something but I can't put my finger on it
Reminded me of Circle Takes the Square a bit as well. Very solid record. They pack a lot of different sounds throughout it. I was hoping something heavier would come along soon and here we are.
