Lol, did not listen last night because I was finishing the new episode of Doughboys, But I will get to this very soon
I dig that reaction. It's a lot, and I chose to under-describe it, although "the stitched-together strangeness of dreams" is its essence.
Thought this Nmesh album was cool as fuck lol. Super strange and fever dream-like. Is that last song pretty much a review by the Needle Drop guy? lol
Read a little more into that last track and Ronald Macdonald is such a clown for giving Floral Shoppe a 4
He did slightly revise his opinion on that a few years ago. That last track incidentally was originally two separate ones, the Ronald McDonald one intended as a secret track, but the runtime was too long to space it out: I love it as a conventional closer. I think the partly comical, partly unsettling note it closes on is befitting of the album whole.
Yeah this is definitely my shit, I think I prepared for something much weirder based on JM's description and Travis' comments because it's definitely weird but I also listen to a lot of vaporwave so it's not throwing me off at all lol. More melodic than the OPN record I kicked the club off with, and that's in a similar vein. Just a really cool, dark, dreamy, vibey record. I'm glad others are fucking with it. @JM95 other favorites from this artist?
I mentioned my other major favourite in the original post -- his double album split with t e l e p a t h called The Path To Lost Eden (written in Japanese as ロストエデンへのパス) is phenomenal. I briefly considered picking it but it's over two hours long and I thought it was already stretching polite form to ask everyone to listen to a contourless 80 minute album. But he's always interesting. Nu.wav Hallucinations and Pharma are well worth digging into. I believe he's finished work on his new album so hopefully we won't have to wait long for that. He also makes and posts fun little mixes and edits on Bandcamp every once in a while, like this funny eye-based, sample-feast remix of The Sign by Ace of Base:
It may already be known in this thread (I'm not sure), it may be recent, but my second pick is Alex G's most recent album, 2022's God Save the Animals. He's been my favorite artist for a few years now, and I really think this is the best showcase of his talents, balancing experimentation with accessibility. If you don't like one track, there's a good chance the next one could be for you, and yet there are themes and instrumental tones throughout that really keep the whole thing cohesive. Would love to convert some fans in here (he's only going up, currently in the studio with Halsey), but if not, I just hope you hear something that impacts you as much as his music has impacted me :) God Save The Animals
And of course, if newcomers do enjoy it, I'm happy to recommend where to go next depending on what songs or aspects you enjoy the most. He has a pretty prolific back catalog that runs all the way back to Badcamp albums being uploaded in 2010.
A lot going on musically on here. Love the hyperpop influence on some of the tracks. Can I get a 100 gecs/Alex G collab plz?
Yeah, I love what "No Bitterness" turns into. "Immunity" has some emo-rap influences I would probably have scoffed at if I read before listening. One of my favorites on the album honestly
