I’ll probably sit out the full commitment for a bit, but I’m following the thread to occasionally pop in and hear whichever pick is happening! I lurk the movie club thread this same way lol. Appreciate the heads up T
"Up" is fucking crazy. Maybe my favorite on the record? The ending is beautiful. I haven't watched these yet, but here's more of the samples found throughout the record:
People who like this should check out R Plus Seven next, it's probably my favorite of his (or at least tied with this). That one isn't sample-based and has more of an abstract classical thing going on, though. It's gorgeous.
Up is arguably the most feel-good song it’s been so long since I’ve listened to this but it’s still so immediately familiar
I recall a lot of it feeling instantly familiar to me even on my first few listens, I think this is one of the record's strengths. Clams Casino's Moon Trip Radio is similar, but less of a classic.
Looking forward to this listen. I've never particularly enjoyed anything I've come across from this project but I like his work with the Safdie Brothers and people really seem to love him, so I'm looking forward to giving it another shot.
Hope y’all are ready for some folk/country shit when my turn comes around. The love for Zach Bryan has convinced me you are ready.
This is good, I really like the title track. OPN has never fully clicked with me, but I really loved the Ford & Lopatin album from 2011.
I’ve not listened to anything of his aside from “Something in the Orange” but that song is incredible and I suppose why I haven’t dug any deeper into his work. that song is too special to me to find that maybe I don’t so much like his other stuff. I say all that to say if what you rec is even half as powerful as that song, I’m all in
I'd really encourage you to delve into the album that track is from, American Heartbreak. It's a triple LP behemoth, and I guarantee you there are other songs on there that you'll love if you dig "Something in the Orange." Possible that "Something in the Orange" isn't even in my top 10 from that album!
I enjoyed Replica enough, left me a bit cold but I'm going to return to it. Playing R Plus Seven now.
All I've heard from Bryan is what my wife plays pretty obsessively around the house, so I haven't really felt the pull towards his music yet unfortunately.
Been meaning to listen to OPN for the past couple years, because I've seen praise for them here and there on this forum. Just never got around to it for some reason. Have the album on now and it's been a really cool listen so far. Sleep Dealer is the standout for me so far
