I thought of Captain Beefheart just from seeing the album cover haha gona save this for work tomorrow, but ready for some weirdness
Late, but I also was lukewarm on the Josephine Collective. There’s some pop punk gems to be sure on this (Lye stands out, I like Crack My Heart too), but too often it feels all over the place, lacking discipline. I couldn’t make it to the end of Leave Me Love and Ivy League. With Feldman producing, I surprisingly didn’t hate the way it sounds though. It didn’t have that way too clean cut overly shiny feel that a lot of his work has. It feels somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd The Used records. There’s still that hint of raw energy in there, just with some added pop sensibility.
Sun Araw invites you down for cocktails by beach and laces them with acid. The Inner treaty sits between the 2 ablums i usually listen to - On Patrol & Belomancie. On Patrol has more accessible washed out jams if your digging the vibe but would appreciate a beat and some structure to hang onto. You may recognise this song from Hotline Miami Spotify album Youtube album Belomanice goes even further into psychedelic minimalism. I think its the more interesting album but at an hour 20mins seemed like the wrong choice for the club (On Patrol was also an hour 20 lol) Spotify Album Youtube Music Album
i wasn't really feeling the first two tracks. From Like Wine to the last track I was vibing though. Really dug the Final Fantasy/old RPG menu screen sounds in Like Wine, made me feel nostalgic
Don't really know how to explain it, but I really like how weird and unsettling all the rhythms and stuff are, but I don't love the actual sounds he uses? Just not big on the drum sounds
Some really neat guitar stuff going on in this, especially on "Like Wine." The rhythms and arrangements are full of weird, unexpected moments. I'd love to hear him do a film score.
Good morning, I'm up next. Going with Fever Ray - Fever Ray from 2009 I'm sure some of you are already fans of Fever Ray. It only feels right to choose this as my first pick because I've been on a huge kick of their music for the last couple of months. Kinda funny that I'm posting this at 7am because this very much feels like a night time album to me. It often feels cold and isolating in the best way. Karin Dreijer uses pronouns they/them
The deluxe has two cover songs btw Stranger than Kindness is a Nick Cave cover and Here Before is a Vashti Bunyan cover. Both great imo!
haven’t listened to it in quite a few months. just a few songs here and there like “I’m Not Done” or “If I Had a Heart” will play after this new Kim Gordon album is over (which would probably be my next choice if new records weren’t frowned upon)
This is the first time ever listening to Fever Ray. I always see their costume (the pale bald lookin person) and it weirded me out. I dig this. Prefer the deep pitch shifted vocal songs, especially love the first track and and the second half of Coconut
