I’ve had to take several breaks in my listening but each time I come back I’m shaking my head. again, such a fun album
also: I swear that one of my next few poetry collections will have a poem called “You Dance Too Much” I love that lyric
Most of his non live records are 2-3 track eps. Dive in, dig it it 12 mins and dip. I love Expensive Shit but go exploring let me know what you find! Water Get No Enemy - Expensive Shit EP Expensive Shit Spotify YouTube Music
Loved this, as well as 2000 Blacks Got To Be Free. Simply incredible shit. Anything else like this but with shorter tracks? Just curious. I like the sprawl but I’m intrigued to see if there’s anything more traditional—song-length wise. From Fela Kuti or anyone else you have in mind!
Yes! A lot of the EPs have an edited version Spotify playlist Youtube Music playlist his drummer Tony Allen did a hip hop album with the kids a couple years ago Kokolo's an American afrobeat band with American runtimes
Listened to some more of his shit while on a run and it was fabulous. Great rec overall. Seems like the kind of timeless music anyone could get into if they have an open mind.
This is not afrobeat but it's one of my favorite African musicians and one of the best records ever recorded as far as I'm concerned:
If it is indeed my turn, I choose Postiljonen - Skyer from 2013. They are a dream pop band from Sweden. According to the internet, they are still a band, but it's been 7 years since their last release so here's hoping they drop something new soon. But yeah, this album is one of my all time favorites to listen to in the summertime (day and night).
