I had forgotten that the first match was so close. I need to go back and see what team I used that first time.
I renamed all my Pokemon for fun. Whimsicott wasn't THAT much different than what I had run in the past but I liked using priority Cotton Guard to wall physical threats and even get the Leech Seed up against Toxtricity to allow Gothitelle to safely switch in. Gothitelle was built in a Trick-Calm Mind set that I remember Jake recommending to me before, and while it didn't get to set up at all it did do some work. Drapion was built to spread Toxic across the party. Grimmsnarl had Throat Chop for vs Toxtricity and was built to trick an Iron Ball onto a Pokemon to halve its speed, and ended up removing Flygon's Life Orb as a result. I probably should've used Lagging Tail but it worked all the same. Dracozolt was built to miss with Dragon Rush, activate the Blunder Policy, and sweep with Dragon Claw. It ended up being the last Pokemon standing, and I couldn't afford to miss against Lapras, so I had to Dragon Claw instead which ended up getting me the win even without the speed boost. Jellicent was built to be annoying as always, trying to Sub+Muddy Water to lower accuracy and Strength Sap for recovery.
@Fucking Dustin So did Malamar's Destiny Bond not work because it got KO'd via poison spikes and not your attack?
Yup that's why, it has to be from a direct attack to activate. I've run into that in the past as well, where I try to bait an attack and get killed by status instead and DB doesn't trigger
That makes sense then. I thought I was so clever with how I timed it, but it's not a move I use very often so I didn't realize it wouldn't work.
I was VERY close to Giga Draining instead of getting the extra defense boost and got so lucky that I didn't go that route
I tried to build Malamar with the most annoying build possible since he was one of two Pokemon I hadn't used yet.
That makes sense, I used all my Pokemon this year (brought Galarian Mr Mime against Laura just to ensure I'd use everyone) even when there are some I probably shouldn't have used (MORPEKO)
I'm pretty sure you used Morpeko against me in our first battle. I probably should have used Lapras before today's battle, but I always went with Focus Sash Barraskewda for the speed and I didn't want the double typing.
I will say that in now having 12 battles I'm incredibly disappointed in Aegislash. Maybe it's the ghost typing, or maybe I'm just using the wrong builds, but for being one of my first picks he did very little in most of my battles. I love using him in the video games, but competitively it was a different story.
Last meta Aegislash was amazing, it should still be good this meta but a lot of the Aegislash builds I've seen I haven't liked (I always liked bulky annoying Aegislash more than sweeper Aegislash personally) It's also a lot better in a format where it's allowed to be the dynamaxer I'm sure
We'll probably start prepping for it and recruiting for it but since we'll be hosting the league on a draft site, it'll probably take longer to actually get started on
