Showdown! Replay: [Gen 8] Ubers replay: DerekIsAGooner vs. Zigbigwig - Pokémon Showdown playoffs match now
Great match y'all, can't wait to see the spreads and hopefully I can put up that much of a fight tomorrow
if this is Derek's first time doing competitive Pokemon I am really impressed. you made very good plays, easily the hardest match I've played so far
So here's what I used against Zig. I realized in my planning that GMax Toxtricity offered absolutely nothing against his team. All of his heavy hitters resisted either Poison or Electricity, so I made the call to bench Toxtricity and give myself two fighters. In the end, I only had 1 Pokemon to bring into battle that could use a Fairy type move - Tokekiss. I didn't have enough firepower to bring down his damn Sableye, and that was what hurt me the most. I still did way, way better than our first battle, and I'm happy with how I did overall. This was so much fun.
It is. I've played Pokemon for years and years, but never competitively. This draft league is my first competitive play.
Oh wow a standard 252-252 spread for the Hawlucha! Just with the unique nature. That's crazy how much of a difference it made
I also just realized a huge mistake - I gave Centiskorch X-Scissor instead of Leech Life. That would have been a big help toward the end of the battle to recover some HP after all of those Stealth Rocks.
I've also been running Scald on Centiskorch for a coverage move, but I never really used it in most of my battles so I dropped it for Power Whip. I would have loved to have had Scald in that battle.
I kept waiting for that Scald to come out and I could tell zig was too with his switches into Vaporeon haha I think Power Whip was the right call
Yeah, you might be right. I could absolutely tell that he did his homework and knew which moves I might have. What I really wish I could have done was borrow a Sylveon for the battle.
The problem with Centiskorch is it really sucks with SR up. the Centiskorch vs Sableye pair, I really wanted to get the item off it (I was assuming it was Heavy-Duty Boots, but it looked like it wasn't). Diggersby was my late game sweeper, when it was taken out early on I knew I had to rely on hazards and chip damage to win. Towards the end I had to use Tyranitar's sandstorm vs Centiskorch, and then Ferrothorn Iron Barbs + Rocky Helmet to put Barraskewda in the red. That's one of the reasons why I don't let my Pokemon die if I can, for situations like those.
he put a +Spd, not Def. looks like i was just dumb and did math wrong. it was a 35% chance to 2HKO with Rock Slide that almost cost me the game @DerekIsAGooner i would've gone with Scrappy Sirfetch'd with a Choice Band. If you used Closed Combat there was nothing on my team that could've handled that, not even Sableye. in my notes i had to sacrifice 1 of my pokemon just to beat that
