Yeah it's a bummer. Their live album without Isaac was great, but I fell off of this new one after a listen or two. You do hear the influence of Ants on so many other artists, though. Geese/Cameron's solo tape, the Dove Ellis album, Racing Mount Pleasant and caroline. I feel like it's as influential to a certain strain of indie rock as Dijon's Absolutely has been to indie (and now I guess mainstream) pop.

  3. Ants was definitely way better than the latest but it never clicked with me like it did for some people. Thought fellow Windmill Scenesters Black Midi kinda blew them out the water all ways. BCNR always been too uhhhh theatrical for me

Definitely theatrical but I could latch on to the music/melodies more than any of the other post punk bands of that crop. Could never get into Black Midi and absolutely hated the Greep solo record. Tbf, I also don't like the first BCNR record. They're 1(.5 with the live)/3 for me.

That Greep record has one great song and the rest is ehh

  6. I feel that way about black midi. Love John L bc it basically feels like a primus song lol, can’t get into the rest

  7. Speaking of, kinda love this from the black midi bassist

I like the Geordie Greep album significantly more than anything else from these bands. I couldn't get into Black Midi at the time but that album has me wanting to revisit them.

All four of the BC,NR albums are pretty close for me, I really like every iteration of the band so far.

  9. Yeah there isn’t a huge jump or dip in quality between BCNR releases for me. I probably like ants as a whole the least but it also has the best two songs

I almost want to make a separate list for jazz and ambient albums. I listen to so much of it, but it's hard to rank alongside all the non-instrumental stuff

I think Ants is probably as good as Heavy Metal and better than Getting Killed. Great record! I wonder if Isaac will ever make any more music. Idk much about the band or how much of that was him vs the entire band, so maybe they were gonna make this one anyway.

Black midi is an interesting band to me, I don't love but I mostly enjoy. The solo one though, terrible

Most scrobbled 2025 releases. Skinhead would probably rank as my AOTY.
