need to spin Geese again. it's not bad, but it still hasn't clicked. think i liked the Cameron Winter solo album a bit better

It was a good year, my daughter was born and we settled in to the new normal. A lot of the pain and sadness of the past few years has melted away, but I remain attached to finding music that allows me to disconnect and to find solace. Obviously I put a lot of albums here, and there was a lot to love. I wouldn't pay much attention to the ranking outside of the top 10, and even then who really cares.
I gotta say I don’t really remember but isn’t that like 85% of the music this board was built on haha
the last album i have in contention for my list (new HEALTH album) releases tomorrow. the year has been pretty solid re: new releases, so it shouldn't be too hard to get a ranking going. might spin it with a VPN since it's out overseas already.
In terms of most played/favorite music not made in 2025, I really fell in love with Van Morrison's Inarticulate Speech of the Heart this year. I find it to be an overlooked masterpiece in his catalog, and a good bridge between the etherial beauty of Astral Weeks and the synth sheen he'd move towards in the 1980s. Eric Caboor and David Kauffman's Songs From Suicide Bridge is probably my favorite discovery. Lewis's L'Amour remains a top played album for me, one that I think every person should check out as it gets colder outside. Intimate, sparse, beautiful. I've played a ton of Beach Boys as I continue into the Jokermen series on them. RIP to Brian Wilson, listen to Love You if you never have (obviously in addition to the classics like Pet Sounds and Surf's Up). Most of the other stuff remains the same as what I've been playing for the past few years. The Blue Nile, Talk Talk & the Mark Hollis solo record, The Replacements, Tusk and Rumours,
I'm putting myself on quite a limb here, but I reckon this is how conversation surrounding Talking Heads probably sounded at their peak.
The thing about that Geese album sounding like a bunch of outros is spot-on. I don't mind it, nor his drunk-Thom-Yorke-with-a-hulking-cold voice. But it's more of a curio than something that excites me.
The worst album that I heard this year was the Camp Trash album. Idk what they were thinking. The Taylor album is not bad, but definitely a misfire in terms of what I think the marketing was hinting at. I did not like the Sabrina Carpenter album. I did not like what I got through in the Hayley Williams album. I was disappointed by Turnstile, BCNR, Wednesday and, to a lesser extent, Great Grandpa which I just kinda forgot about.
Didn’t even listen to the camp trash album. The Sabrina album rules though. So does the Addison Rae album.
i obviously agree, i meant that songs like islands of men kind of carry the same instrumental theme from the intro throughout the song which seems to be a formula they like and, imo, is a feature not a bug
The Addison Rae album was definitely better than Sabrina Carpenter's, but I don't necessarily understand the hype. Diet Pepsi rocks, the rest kinda blended together.

been waiting on that list too I really do glean a lot from the users here who have a similar taste in music
o man that Black Country New Road was so disappointing…Ants From Up There is such an incredible album and I had such high hopes for the new one but as soon as I heard the vocalist was leaving and was replaced by other band members I had a bad feeling which was confirmed upon listening
Hell yeah and likewise. Please do lmk if you (or anyone else) finds something that resonates from my list! Love to discuss
