Definitely a grower. I couldn't wait for it and I enjoyed it at first, but not as much as I thought I would. After many listens, I like it a lot more now and part of my top 10.
im not a huge balance fan but I feel every scene person should experience Raindrop with a good set of headphones. Massive, incredibly produced song.
Yeah, I’m with you. I don’t hate them but they just don’t catch my ear. Reflection is a banger though.

i wasn't sure if they'd top Separate and they did, they blew me away with The Mosaic, such a beefy and explorative album!
I missed the Less Than Jake EP from last year. Listened to it today and it kicks ass. Would have made my list.
I guess I could still try and throw in mine, since I've actually made it sooner than the end of another year (just sat on it for some time now anyways) - Only 5 first albums chosen in my "rated" order, and the rest just follows alphabetically (not necessarily all-that-correctly in the pic, as I've just noticed now I've messed up at least one thing over there hahh, I hope I was just tired) 1. Lizzy McAlpine - Older 2. Balance and Composure - with you in spirit 2. Sinai Vessel - I SING 4. Carly Cosgrove - The Cleanest of Houses Are Empty 5. Hovvdy - Hovvdy - 6-10 Aaron West and The Roaring Twenties - In Lieu of Flowers Efterklang - Things We Have in Common Foxing - Foxing Hot Water Music - VOWS Soccer Mommy - Evergreen - 11-30 should also be in alphabetical order in the pic as well, just a reset to another batch that I'll skip for this far
Hey!! Had a surgery right before Christmas so I didn't end up thinking about doing this until recent weeks. My goal for 2024 was to spend more time with new releases instead of giving each one listen and forming thoughts immediately then move on to the next like it feels like we're forced to in this day & age. I made sure to revisit everything in January and February to see how much my connection to those albums had changed over the past year and I came up with this Top 40. I've never done this that way and it had a positive outcome because instead of struggling to remember what came out that year, I even kept more albums than ever. This is something I'll continue and perhaps I'll even come back with a Top 50 at the end of 2025. A common denominator for my favorite albums were their ability to transport me to another world, while tugging at my heartstrings. Kalandra took my #1 spot with the slight advantage of having had the chance to catch them live. I've been looking forward to this second album after my brother got me into their debut in 2020, and it was well worth the wait. That said, Tyla was my biggest surprise of the year. I wasn't really familar with her, I think having just heard Water and a couple other songs around the end of 2023, but something about her music, her voice, how alive the album sounds and the way many choruses contain these anthemic chanted hooks... it totally gripped me. One of my favorite things in music is when you stumble upon an artist, instantly click with them and next thing you know their music takes over your life. It happened with PinkPantheress in 2021, shifting even my music journey by making me fully dive into electronic subgenres I had only touched the surface of up until that point. Tyla was that artist for me in 2024, and I hope she has a long career ahead of her! I could write a lot more about the other picks but that would take me way too long nn. I'm thinking of making a playlist but picking a favorite song from each album isn't an easy task either. Overall, a great year for music for sure.
