i use Marvis on mobile and NepTunes on laptop for Apple music/Last.fm and it works great. NepTunes I believe is free, Marvis is a few bucks.
My top artists: 1. Bob Dylan 2. Wilco 3. Drive-By Truckers 4. Green Day 5. Oasis Top songs: 1. Jason Isbell - When We Were Close 2. Militarie Gun - Do It Faster 3. Ruston Kelly - Brave 4. Jason Isbell - Death Wish 5. Drive-By Truckers - Birthday Boy Top Albums: 1. Jason Isbell - Weathervanes 2. Wednesday - Rat Saw God 3. QOTSA - In Times New Roman 4. Foo Fighters - But Here We Are 5. Drive-By Truckers - The Big To-Do
I use Marvis on iOS (best Apple Music player with built in support) and Neptunes on the Mac (just an app that runs in the menu bar and scrobbles).
My list starts as a ranked list and then eventually turns into "records I enjoyed that are too difficult to rank" but that I still wanted to highlight this year!
I thought it was funny how close our scrobble counts were. We can do this! (If vinyl spins figured in, I’d probably be around 40k. Shame there’s no efficient way to track that.)
TOP ALBUMS OF 2023: 1. Trophy Eyes - Suicide and Sunshine I never was even a huge fan of this band but this record hit me in the feels and has such a solid mix of sounds and styles all done so well. I'm shocked this album isn't more widely celebrated. "Sean" rips my heart out every time. "Kill" and "What Hurts the Most" are excellent by any standards and "People Like You" is such a different sound that I respect and enjoy it. 2. Olivia Rodrigo - GUTS Love her or hate her this album had a little bit of everything. There were a lot of brave choices when yoh factor the weight of expectation, the pop stardom and the Taylor Swift comparisons many launched. 3. Blink 182 - One More Time 4. Magnolia Park - Halloween Mixtape II If you haven't given this band a chance yet...please do. They seem to drop singles constantly that are consistently fantastic. They are great live. I have this at 4 but they were probably my most listened to artist of 2023. I also love that this band brings more diversity to the genre. 5. NF - HOPE "Happy" is probably my most played song and most watched music video of the year. Rap isn't usually my thing but NF tells stories in a way that gets me. 6. Sabrina Carpenter - Emails I Can't Send Sabrina is on fire exiting 2023. She got the prized spot as opener for Taylor Swifts Era's Tour. Emails I Can't Send was a great album that offers a ton. "Nonsense" became a huge hit single. This is just good music. I'm surprising myself by ranking this so highly but I think it's worthy. The rest of the albums list isn't clear to me at the moment as I am admittedly rushing this before getting some much needed sleep but here's what else I think is worthy of checking out and shouting out: Andrew McMahon - Tilt At The Wind No More Caskets - Reflections Jetty Bones - Songs I Wrote Instead of Killing Myself Pierce the Veil - The Jaws of Life Arrows in Action - Built to Last Story of the Year - Tear Me To Pieces Meet Me @ the Altar - Past // Present // Future Bearings - The Best Part About Being Human Knuckle Puck - Losing What We Love Hail the Sun - Divine Inner Tension Hot Mulligan - Why Would I Watch? Gracie Abrams - Good Riddance Real Friends - There's Nothing Worse Than Too Late Holding Absence - The Noble Art of Self Destruction FRND CRCL- Suburnan Dictionary Hot Milk - A Call To The Void Movements - RUCKUS! Point North - Prepare For Despair TOP EP'S OF 2023: 1. Capstan - nulla How is this band not bigger!?!? This band writes lyrics that read like poetry and has tracks that are hardcore, heavy metal and then others that are ballads or emo or pop punk. They do it all and they do it incredibly well. There's also a maturity in their lyrics that a lot of emo and pop punk lacks. I challenge anyone reading this to read the lyrics to one of their older tracks called "We'll Always Have Paris" and not be incredibly impressed. Please give this band some love! 2. Yellowcard - Childhood Eyes TOP "I DON'T GET THE LOVE" LIST OF 2023: 1. Koyo- Would You Miss It? This band opened for TBS on Long Island for their Christmas show and I thought it was terrible. I tried listening to their album and I've seen it highly ranked on many lists in this thread but my musical taste buds reject this band. This is not meant to put down the band or those who like them, for some reason their music jusf falls flat for me. 2. TBS - 152 I can listen to this album and not hate it but I don't love it either. At the TBS concert I was just at I was disappointed every time they started to play a new song. I just prefer the rest of their discography more. WORST OF 2023: Stand Atlantic - Sex on the Beach (single) *post is under construction..I'm too sleepy to finish tonight*
I can't possibly catch up to all of these I missed in any reasonable amount of time, but can you maybe suggest a couple you think I might dig or that you really wish more people would check out.
I use vinylscrobbler.com but it’s kind of a pain in the ass. Better than nothing though (site is down today for some reason).
I think Holding Absence and Katie Dey definitely deserve more attention. I'd guess you'd like Movements, Gunship and Boys Like Girls? Maybe Black Country, New Road? Idk, I'm not the best at knowing what will click with other people but those would be my first thoughts.
Thank you @Jason Tate and @phaynes12 for the heads up on the Marvis app. Working perfect so far. Dont have a MacBook YET but should have one soon and I’ll add Neptunes once I do.

Awesome year in music.
