looks verrrrrrrrrry similar to what my list consists of for the most part, except billie is nowhere on my list at all

 

I’m waiting another week to reevaluate some.

 

I'm stunned by people with enormous lists or who say things like "any of my top 10 could be my AOTY." How do you love so many things and why do I hate so many things? I've listened to, in part or in full, literally hundreds of albums this year, and there's like 30 total that I can comfortably say I even liked, nevermind loved.

 

I don't think I'm quite that bad but I definitely feel you haha.

 

This is me better than I could have described me.

 

I feel you. I have a list of 30 because I actually liked all of those, but I also didn't really have to cut any albums to get to 30. I did not listen to hundreds though.

 

I think I'll probably have a list of 30 I really liked and around 10 I love. Not really been truly blown away by anything this year the way I used to be though.

 

Similar. I was looking at my list for last year and I think there are eight or nine albums that would be top of the pile for me if they'd come out this year.

 

I have maybe four that could be my number one rn, but a ton of albums that I really enjoyed. Why are you listening to so many albums you hate? If I’m not feeling it by the second song I usually find something else.

 

inwas thinking about this too…is it bc I am older so it’s harder to fall in love w new music? Like that Turnstile album I’d probably love if I were in college but now in my 30s i can enjoy it but I don’t hear anything from it that separates it from other ‘good’ punk albums that would make it ‘great’

 

That’s definitely a part of it, I often think “I feel like I have heard this before, but better"

 

I used to do a top 50. Then scaled down to top 40. Now I just focus really specifically on narrowing it down to 30 and getting everything into an order that reflects the music year I had. It's not necessarily a reflection of loving less music each year; I've just found the EOTY list time feels more celebratory to me when I'm a little more selective with the albums I'm recognizing.

Not big on this Dry Cleaning album that has been popping up on lists

 

I really wanted to like that record, but ultimately just couldn’t hang. The idea is cool in theory but the execution wasn’t there

 

The phrase "in part" was doing a lot of heavy lifting there.

 

i really like it. i get it not working for some but it’s the best of the recent british post punk releases imo
