Oh yeah, especially after Immunity finally clicked for me this year, Sling didn't really do much for me. I also didn't like Foo Fighters' newest album. It's dad rock in all the wrong ways, while Van Weezer is dad rock in the right ways. I really like Whokill and Nikki Nack by Tune-yards, but man their last two albums leave me cold, the most recent of which came out this year.
Favorites - No particular order: Weezer - OK Human Weezer - Van Weezer Hot Mulligan - I Won't Reach Out To You UserX - UserX Manchester Orchestra - The Million Masks of God Trace Mountains - House of Confusion Modest Mouse - The Golden Casket Twenty One Pilots - Scaled & Icy Polo G - Hall of Fame J. Cole - The Off-Season Rod Wave - SoulFly Foo Fighters - Medicine at Midnight Straylight Run - Live at the Patchogue Theatre Slaughter Beach, Dog - At the Moonbase (technically 2020, but I believe released the final week)
These were the ones I was most disappointed in due to these artists’ great past projects: Thunder Gloss - True Crash Burial Waves - Holy Ground Lorde - Solar Power Future of Forestry - Remember I liked all these albums but they still didn’t meet my expectations due to the artists’ amazing previous work: Lowland Hum - At Home Trace Mountains - House of Confusion Julien Baker - Little Oblivions Lucy Dacus - Home Video Illuminati Hotties - Let Me Do One More Also, I got really excited for the Kississippi album from the singles but wasn’t too into the album when it came out
I hate saying this but Foxing is one of my favorite bands and unfortunately DDTM doesn't do much for me as a whole. Its a disappointing record relative to the rest of their catalogue, especially when up to this point I've loved each new foxing record more than the last. I've probably listened to the new one 3 times all the way through since release whereas I was playing NMG practically on loop for like 3 months in 2018. Some parts of this record really get on my nerves, especially songs like 'Lightning'. The extensive promo campaign they did didnt really help this time around either since it got me extremely hyped, therefore furthering my letdown. Others I was really looking forward to but let me down in the end: Teenage Wrist Shame Foo Fighters Glitterer Citizen Slow Crush Ruby Haunt Blankenberge
Yeah the Teenage Wrist one is a great call out too. That record wound up actually kinda flopping for me. That’s even apart from later learning about of of their abusive members, which was definitely the nail in the coffin

I was really rooting for them but its hard going from a record like Chrome Neon Jesus which immediately blew me a way to the new one. The abuse allegations definitely added to the bad taste in my mouth with this one too. Also the only songs I've ever come back to from it are the ones Kamtin was involved in before he left to focus on his own stuff. Th rest feels like Jimmy Eat World worship imo. Just too big of a a change in sound/genre for me.
Wet was like top 10 on the GVB list and I was shocked because I have only seen/heard of people being let down by it (myself included)
I really tried, but it's so dull and lifeless, there's like one or two memorable moments on the entire thing. I'm all for downtempo, but it has to still be interesting and this one just... isn't
1. Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert 2. Biffy Clyro - The Myth of The Happily Ever After 3. Turnstile - Glow On 4. Manchester Orchestra - The Million Masks of God 5. Self Esteem - Prioritise Pleasure 6. Press To MECO - Transmute 7. Sam Fender - Seventeen Going Under 8. Trophy Scars - Astral Pariah 9. The Killers - Pressure Machine 10. Trivium - In The Court of The Dragon
Cool to see Trophy Scars on a list. I love almost all of their previous material, but I can’t get into this one. It frustrates me.
replying because it’s rare to find someone to talk Future of Forestry with I enjoyed the newest FOF album and I have it right on the cusp of my album list that I’m working through — I can see disappointment with it because it was pretty one note for most of it, but there were a few highs like “Free” and “Turn Your Heart” that I really enjoyed
Probably just doing a top 10 this year. Biggest disappointment is definitely the Lorde album, although I don’t think it’s outright bad.
I think Horizons / East was the biggest disappointment for me. Some solid tracks and not a bad album by any means, but it just didn’t have an impact on me the way their releases normally do.
Their best since Beggars for sure but also not really the kind of thing I reach for these days. Didn’t go back to it much
I loved Palms and maybe was expecting something different from the album. I may have to give it some more listens. Scavengers is a really great song.
