I'm always surprised when people know who they are haha. They broke up right before getting signed due to creative differences between members on the direction to take the band (genre wise) so I just assume not many people have heard of them and I'm always wrong.
I saw the name on APnet a bunch, and I always assumed they were a joke band because they're called 2*sweet
Oh my god wow. This is seriously amazing. I haven't listened in a while honestly but I'm going to have to now. I was a youngster when they were active and they were my first "punk" show I ever went to, which is cool. I didn't realize their popularity at the time because I wasn't really into emo/pop punk music then, but I'm glad they still live on in some peoples iTunes libraries haha.

Her album thread on here hasn't had much in the way of discussion, certainly in comparison to other records, so it doesn't surprise me that much. It's a challenging, sparse, raw record - something that appeals to critics but it doesn't have the warmth of something like the Phoebe Bridgers record, and I think a lot of the hooks sink in while you're listening to it rather than becoming lodged in your brain when you're not, so for a lot of people it's probably not a regular listen. Personally, it's one of my favourites of the year. Haven't decided if I'll bother properly ranking my list but if I do, it's probably top three.
The thing with Fiona Apple is she has always been more of a critic's darling than a widely embraced musical figure. That's bearing out with year-end lists: she's getting the most AOTY wins, but is still lagging behind Phoebe Bridgers on the aggregated list (at least this one that Rob Mitchum tracks every year). Punisher has broader-based appeal across fans of a wide range of genres, and is just an easier sell to a more casual music fan.

There's a lot of stuff I need to give more listens to. I also have a list of close to 200 artists that i've been compiling over the past year or so of artists I need to listen to and a good third of them have released albums this year too. I already know there will be at least two or three in there that will probably push themselves to the top of my list if I listened to them now, but I just haven't got the time. Or the urge tbh, 200 artists is daunting as fuck haha
