Sault is the one band I’m seeing on nearly every list (very high on most lists) that I completely missed. Like I had legitimately never heard of them, total blind spot.

I'm a little surprised at the relative lack of fiona apple love in this topic. Like she's on a few of your lists but am I the only person with hers as the AOTY?

 

I definitely dig the album, but it doesn't really grab me and wow me like it seems to do with a lot of other people

 

Fiona record is great and I was obsessed with it for a few weeks when it first came out. Feel like every time I've gone back to it since then I've enjoyed it less and less though. Definitely on my list but not that high up I think.

    There’s no real order to this other than Hum being my favorite album of the year. If I have to recommend 3 I’d say check out Nudie Mag, Spice, and my homie Cold Gawd

 

is this the same Hum from the 90s? What's the story there?

 

They dropped their first album in like twenty years with absolutely zero heads up and it’s just non stop thick ass riffs.

 

I love the Fiona album but for some reason I just instinctively take it out of the running for stuff like this because of the critical conversation around it

I’ve had a lot of albums like this. Tends to happen every year but it feels like more albums fit that bill this year

 

The Fiona record is great, but this year a big part of my ranking process was prioritizing albums I spent a lot of time with over ones I liked and respected but maybe only listened to like 3 times. Young Jesus fell the same way

 

Honestly I wouldn’t have even called myself a Hum fan before this year other than a few tracks like Stars but Inlet is incredible. Almost a stoner rock sound and the production is immaculate.

 

Still can’t get into it

 

Only two it's been really pronounced with for me this year are the Fiona and the Dylan records, both of which are pretty dense and "difficult" so I think it just means I've gotten dumber and less-refined as the year has progressed haha

 

is there a key track you can recommend to check out? I'm intrigued.
