I don't know if it had something to do with the pandemic, but this year I definitely listened to way less of a variety of music than usual. And if I'm being honest, there's a pretty massive gap between the Charli and Sawayama albums and everything else on my list in terms of how often I revisited entire albums. The one thing I kept returning to most often was Dylan Brady's production—if my SOTYs are any indication—as opposed to full albums.

 

Definitely did not listen to much music this year for *gestures wildly* reasons, but was able to get together a list or so of 30+ albums in three tiers, roughly in order. Except for a couple albums, it was really difficult to connect with new music under our current hell. I definitely found myself listening to pre-2020 albums more and as a result Tigers Jaw's Spin (2017) would be far and away my favorite album of this year.

Taylor Swift- Folklore: really wanted to put this on my list, but since I only started listening to TSwift/Folklore 2 months ago I felt it best to digest it more. Plus I wanna listen to Evermore.

Svalbard: Again great album, but only just started listening, and wanted to hear more.

Rico Nasty: Just such a crazy album. She’s an amazing vocalist, and the beats are wild throughout. IPHONE is massive.

Jeff Rosenstock- No Dream. I messssed up not including this gem. State line, Scram!, Honeymoon Ashtray, and Ohio Tpke are some of my favorite tunes this year. That double bass moment on Scram, and the end of Ohio in particular. Great stuff

 

Completely forgot O'Brother in my list because it's not on Apple Music. Definitely have it ranked around the same place.

 

Yeah O’B was actually my only letdown of the year. I adore them, and their live show is simply incredible. I also enjoyed You & I a lot, but it didn’t grab me like Endless Light or Garden Window.
